One patent is 6,874,014, titled “Chip Multiprocessor with Multiple Operating Systems, dating back to 2005. The other is 6,724,241, titled “Variable Charge Pump Circuit with Dynamic Loading,” and was first granted in year 2004.

According to documents uncovered by Patently Apple, the infringement involves a long list of Apple products, dating back as far as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, fifth-generation iPads, all iPad Pros, and various MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models.

The filing alleges that Apple infringed the ‘014 patent with technology used in the A-series, M-series and T-series chipsets. Meanwhile, Patent No. 241 concerns SK Hynix’s NAND flash memory chips, a type of chip used to process storage.

The filing seeks judgment for damages, costs, expenses, interest, continuing license fees, and “reasonable attorneys’ fees.” A trial by jury is also required.

Apple is often the target of patent-related lawsuits, in some cases brought by non-practicing entities (NPEs), also known as “patent trolls.”

In Sonrai Memory’s case, it appears to exhibit a number of behaviors that make it appear to be an NPE, such as the company not known for producing actual products or providing services outside of the lawsuit, but it does receive data from HP and semiconductor companies Atmel was awarded the patent in the lawsuit.

Sonrai Memory has also filed similar patent infringement lawsuits against Western Digital, Google, Samsung, LG, Lenovo and others since July 2021.

The company’s registration itself is also much like an NPE. According to the Irish Times, Sonrai Memory Limited has the same address in Dublin and the same directors as several NPE companies, all of which hold technology patents and are involved in the lawsuit.
