Facebook introduces new feature to share advertising revenue between video creators and music rights holders

Music Revenue Sharing

On July 25, local time, Facebook announced the introduction of a new monetization feature, Music Revenue Sharing, that allows creators to use licensed music in their videos and earn money from in-stream advertising. This will allow both creators and music rights owners to monetize their videos on Facebook.

Mechanism of “Music Revenue Sharing”

“Music Revenue Sharing” is provided by “Rights Manager”, a tool for managing Facebook copyrights. This feature is made possible in partnership with the entire music industry and is beneficial to creators, partners, music rights holders and fans.

With the introduction of this feature, creators will be able to monetize specific videos with licensed songs that they couldn’t do before.

To use Music Revenue Sharing, you must be able to use in-stream advertising and meet your monetization eligibility criteria. Creators can earn a revenue share of 20% of the advertising revenue generated by the targeted videos, with the rest split between the music rights owner and Meta. Also, the length of the video is 60 seconds or more, and it is not possible to post a video whose main purpose is the licensed music itself, provided that there is a visual element.

This feature was released to video creators in the US on the same day and will be rolled out to other countries in the coming months.
