Google Maps has been updated with three new features available.
Realistic aerial photography of the landmark
With the summer travel season in full swing, many people are using Google Maps to plan their trips and get useful information for sightseeing.
Google Maps now has realistic aerial photographs of some of the world’s 100 most popular landmarks in Barcelona, London, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo and more. This feature is said to be a stepping stone to provide an “immersive view” that combines AI with billions of high-definition street views, satellite and aerial photography.
For example, when planning a trip to New York, you’ll get a closer look at what the Empire State Building looks like and decide whether or not to add it to your travel itinerary. To see aerial photos, search for the landmark on Google Maps and go to the Photos section.
New cycling route information
More and more people are biking due to climate change and soaring gasoline prices. Google Maps has been providing cycling guides for over 12 years, combining data from AI with cities, trusted cartography partners, and feedback from the Google Maps community.
The new cycling route information will make it easier to prepare, as it will allow you to compare cycling routes and see more detailed information.
More detailed information includes altitude on the route, places with heavy traffic, stairs, and whether there are steep slopes. It is also clear at a glance what kind of roads you will drive, such as major roads and general roads.
New location information sharing function
The more you go out, the more opportunities you have to coordinate meetings with friends and family, but with Google Maps’ new location sharing feature, you can tell when your loved ones arrived or left the place. Understand, it makes scheduling easier. For example, if you’re meeting at a concert venue and the other person chooses to share your location, you can set a notification at the venue’s address and meet the person you’re meeting with right away. Also, when you go out for mountain climbing alone, you can let someone know that you have returned safely by notifying you that you have returned to the parking lot at the mountain climbing entrance.
The features are built with privacy in mind, and notifications can only be set by those who choose to share their location.
