According to Apple’s official statement, as a UI extension of the application, Live Activity and widget (Widget) are not exactly equal, after all, the two use different mechanisms to receive updates.

For example, users can keep track of sporting events with Live Activity and easily view updated scores on the lock screen. Plus, if you’re waiting for an Uber ride, the widget shows how close the driver is to you.

For developers, they can configure, start, update and terminate Live Activity functions through ActivityKit.

On the iOS 16 / iPadOS preview page, Apple did not list Live Activity as available first. Even so, the Cupertino tech giant is allowing developers to provide early access to its apps.

If all goes well, Live Activity will officially arrive with the iOS 16 major version update this fall. But during this period, developers are temporarily unable to submit applications that support Live Activity to Apple officials.
