When will the iPhone 14 launch event happen?Predict from past data

Apple October 2020 Event

When exactly will Apple’s September product launch event take place? US media 9to5Mac derived the date when the event is likely to occur from past event data.

Event announcements are either Monday, Tuesday or Thursday

If you look back at the schedule of announcement dates for Apple events over the past decade, the fact emerges that they’ve happened on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. By day of the week, it looks like this:

  • Monday – once
  • Tuesday – 4 times
  • Thursday – 5 times

Until now, Thursday tends to be the most chosen day for event announcements, but recently it is said that it is often held on Tuesday.

In-person or virtual?

For the past two years, Apple’s new product launch events have been held virtually because of the pandemic. Given that this year’s World Developers Conference (WWDC) has returned to being a physical event, it’s entirely possible that new product launch events will also move away from the virtual world.

If the iPhone 14 announcement event is held in person, it seems likely that Thursday will be chosen as the announcement date rather than Tuesday.

Here’s a look at the trends in physical and virtual Apple events over the past decade:

  • Dates are between the 7th and 13th
  • The Tuesday event was announced seven or eight days in advance and was half virtual
  • Thursday events were announced 11 or 11-13 days in advance, and 5 out of 6 were in person.

The fact that physical events are announced earlier than virtual events is said to take into consideration the movement of the press, such as hotel reservations.

When will it actually take place?

Nine out of ten Apple events have been held in September, and it is highly likely that this year will also be held in September. A summary of the data for the event date is as follows:

  • iPhone events have been held on Tuesdays or Wednesdays
  • Tuesday was chosen 6 times, Wednesday was chosen 4 times
  • 4 out of 5 recent events happened on Tuesday

Given that the event happened earlier in the month, the possible dates for the Apple event are:

  • Tuesday, September 6th
  • Wednesday, September 7
  • Tuesday, September 13th
  • Wednesday, September 14th
