What cleaning materials do I need?

This is undoubtedly the first question that arises. Cleaning items and tools. Some of the suggestions we’ll be making here are already in your home, however, since they’re very traditional cleaning elements, we’ll link you to all of our suggestions in case you need to make a last-minute purchase.

  • Isopropyl Alcohol: This alcohol is specifically designed for this type of cleaning without damaging the electronics. In this way, we will ensure the desired results during fine-tuning without affecting the structure or function of the elements we are dealing with. It’s very low cost and you can probably buy it at a supermarket you trust.
  • Precision Brush: Just like any other brush we use to clean shoes, textiles or surfaces, but in a significantly smaller size. Using these brushes we will be able to properly clean the holes corresponding to the lightning port, microphone and of course the speaker.
  • Glass Cleaner: This is the ideal element for cleaning the frame, screen and back glass of your iPhone. This way, it will glow like day one without any damage.
  • Microfiber Cloths: Last but not least, and probably the most necessary element, these cloths allow us to clean our devices without scratching. Interestingly, we always choose the option designed for cleaning glass or steel, as this ensures we don’t get micro-wear on the device.
  • Toothpicks or “toothpicks”.

Now that we have our shopping list, it’s time to get to work and cleaning.

How to Clean Your iPhone

The first thing we do is take a small container (shot glass, coffee, or similar) and fill it to 20% of its capacity with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, as we need it to slightly wet the cleaning brush.

Then we’re going to take a microfiber cloth and put it on the table. We will be working on this cloth, which will be used exclusively for this purpose. At this point, we’re going to take the lid off and moisten one of the microfiber cloths with glass cleaner, and we’ll continue cleaning the lid from the inside, especially around the edges, which is where dirt usually gets in. When we’re done with the cover, we’ll put it out of the cloth and we’re done.

Here’s how to clean the grill, microphone, and headphones. To do this, we’ll dip the brush in isopropyl alcohol, we’ll wipe the excess alcohol off the cloth on the table, and we’ll move laterally, from side to side, never pressing, but “sweeping”, on the screen on the phone. Then we’ll also repeat the action in the lower grille where the iPhone’s speaker and microphone are located. At this point, it’s important that we don’t put pressure on the mesh, because in this case we’re not cleaning the dirt, but introducing it inside the iPhone.

Every time we’ve cleaned the corresponding grid, it’s time to get a toothpick. We’ll cover it without exerting any force, and being very careful, through the Lightning port, all the way in, but without exerting pressure.

We’ll introduce it from one side, and then we’ll sweep to the other side, trying to extract any type of fluff that’s inside. It’s crucial that we don’t apply any pressure, as we could damage the very fragile Lightning port.

You’ll be surprised how much lint and dirt you can remove from it. Now that our iPhones are almost ready, here comes the easiest thing to do. We’ll lightly moisten a microfiber cloth with glass cleaner and run the cloth gently through the iPhone’s bezels, the back, and finally the screen. At this point, it is important to remember that if we have tempered glass, we have to apply a little pressure on the sides so that the cloth can properly clean the dirt remaining between the tempered glass and the iPhone screen. This will be the last step, we’ve cleaned the iPhone.

How to Clean AirPods

To clean our Airpods we’ll use the exact same products that we use to clean our iPhones, plus the same cleaning tips will be useful:

  1. Remove the case from the AirPods and clean the inside with glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
  2. Take the AirPods out and clean the inside of the case with a microfiber cloth lightly moistened with glass cleaner.
  3. Run a precision brush dipped in isopropyl alcohol through all AirPods grills on the top and bottom grills, identified as black or silver.
  4. Clean any white areas with a microfiber cloth.
  5. Clean the outside of the charging case with a microfiber cloth.
