August 27 is National Parks Day, and Apple has announced new ways it plans to support the National Parks Foundation this year. Starting August 8, the company will donate $10 for every Apple Pay purchase on Apple.com, the Apple Store app, and Apple retail stores.

Apple CEO Tim Cook explained that Apple is proud to partner with organizations and communities committed to the U.S. National Park Service:

“Whenever I visit a national park—as I did recently in Yosemite and Glacier—I can feel the awe, serenity, and reverence that only nature can inspire. We are proud to partner with The organizations and communities that maintain our parks work together to allow us to learn about their histories and share them with the world. These treasures are well worth preserving for every generation, now and in the future.”

“America’s national parks are a gift we all share,” said Will Shafroth, president and CEO of the National Parks Foundation. “Apple’s partnership and generous commitment help ensure that all people find themselves in national parks and feel welcome in these places where we all belong.”

Apple will donate $10 to the U.S. National Park Service for every Apple Pay purchase made at Apple Retail Stores, through Apple.com and through the Apple Store app. Donations are capped at US$1,000,000 (approximately RMB 6.85 million).

In addition to donations, Apple celebrates National Parks Day on Apple Podcasts (with featured content) and Apple Maps. As previously reported, Apple also launched the Apple Watch “National Park” event challenge, which will take place on August 27.
