Apple Watch Series 8 SiP S8, same as S6 and S7 as rumored

Apple Watch S8 official

Apple Watch Series 8’s System-in-Package (SiP) S8 is the same as the rumored S6 and S7, according to MacRumors.

Confirmed that the same SiP is installed in 3 generations

Bloomberg’s Marc Garman pointed out in June 2022 that the S8, the SiP of the Apple Watch Series 8, is the same as the S6 and S7.

MacRumors confirmed the identifier of the CPU part in the SiP of the S8 and reported that it was the same T8301 as the S6 and S7.

From this, since Apple changed from S5 in Apple Watch Series 5 to S6 in Apple Watch Series 6, the SiP is basically the same.

However, MacRumors reports that they may have made some changes to the SiP to support things like the Apple Watch Series 8’s new accelerometer and gyroscope.

New SiP manufacturing plan with TSMC’s 3nm process in 2023?

The S6 and S7 are based on the A13 Bionic and manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm process.

For example, if the S8 is based on A14 Bionic and manufactured with TSMC’s 5nm process, the performance will improve, but Apple is considering developing a new SiP with a 3nm process and extending battery life by improving power efficiency. MacRumors speculates that it could be.
