iPhone 14 is officially on sale, iOS 16 has vulnerabilities that may affect new machine activation

The Apple iPhone 14 series officially went on sale today, and the first users who pre-ordered the new phone can receive the phone today. However, Apple has confirmed that users activating new iPhones may encounter an issue where the device cannot be activated using Wi-Fi during initial setup, an issue Apple says is “under investigation.”

In a memo seen by MacRumors, Apple said, “iOS 16 has a known issue that may affect activation of devices using open Wi-Fi networks.” To fix this, Apple says users should select “Connect to a Mac or PC with iTunes” when prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network when initializing iOS, then go back to the previous screen and try again using Wi-Fi until Activation succeeded.

Apple pointed out in the memo that there is no official fix at this time, and it has to be said that the appearance of this bug is very out of date, because today users around the world are starting to receive their new iPhone 14 series.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple has rolled out an iOS 16.0.1 update for the iPhone 14 series that fixes activation and migration issues during setup. If you’re having trouble activating your iPhone 14, you may need to upgrade to iOS 16.0.1 on your Mac or PC to fix the bug and activate your new iPhone.

Additionally, in a support document, Apple reminded new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro users that “iMessage and FaceTime may not complete activation,” requiring them to update their new iPhones to iOS 16.0.1.
