The 24/7 display mode dims the lock screen, but still displays information such as the time, widgets, and wallpaper. When the user picks up the iPhone, taps the screen, or presses the side button, the display returns to normal brightness. Users can also swipe up from the bottom of the display and authenticate with Face ID to unlock the iPhone.
By default, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro series will always turn on the all-weather display mode, of course, users can also manually turn off this feature in the settings app.
However, in the following eight scenarios, the all-weather display will be temporarily turned off:
1. Place the iPhone face down
2. The iPhone is in a pocket or bag
3. Turn on Sleep Focus
4. Turn on low power mode
5. Connect iPhone to CarPlay
6. Use the continuity camera
7. The user has not used the iPhone for a period of time
8. Users wear Apple Watch away from iPhone
Apple said that the all-weather display will be temporarily turned off in the above eight scenarios, and the display will turn completely black after turning it off. This is to extend battery life!
The 24/7 display uses multiple co-processors in the A16 Bionic chip to refresh the display at “minimal power”, making the display “very energy efficient”. Plus the iPhone 14 Pro series can drop the refresh rate down to 1Hz to ensure that the all-weather display mode doesn’t have a big impact on battery life.
