All attention now turns to October and beyond, with rumors that Apple still has a lot of plans until the end of 2022. In response, Macrumors has rounded up some of Apple’s larger announcements later this year.

iPhone 14 Plus launch

While the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max launched on September 16, the iPhone 14 Plus will have to wait until October 7 to start shipping. Apple didn’t provide a reason for the staggered release, but the iPhone 14 Plus is a brand new option in the lineup and will be the first non-Pro model ever sold with a large 6.7-inch screen.

Key new features on the iPhone 14 Plus include car crash detection, upcoming support for emergency texting via satellite in the US and Canada, longer battery life, an improved camera, and a more repairable design with a removable back glass panel. The device uses the same five-core GPU A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13 Pro.

The only differences between the iPhone 14 Plus and the smaller 6.1-inch iPhone 14 include display size, battery life, weight and price.

iOS 16.1 has features like live events

Apple says iOS 16.1 will be released later this year. The software update will include several new features for the iPhone, such as Live Activites support in third-party apps, a Clean Energy Charging option in the U.S., support for Matter accessories in the Home app, no Apple Watch The Apple Fitness+ workout app and more.

It’s unclear if iOS 16.1 will include features like the iCloud shared photo library and the new Freeform digital whiteboard app, which Apple says will be available later this year. iOS 16.2 is likely to be released in December and promises any remaining features.

Apple’s October events

Apple often holds events in October to announce new iPad and Mac models, and this year may be no different. Given how early this September’s event is, the next event could be in early October, but it remains to be seen when.

For the October event, Apple is rumored to be planning to announce new iPad Pro models with M2 chips, a redesigned 10th-generation entry-level iPad, and at least a few more Macs with M2-series chips. By the end of 2022, a new Mac Pro launch is almost certain, and new MacBook Pro and Mac mini models are also possible.

iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura release date

Apple says iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura will be released to the public in October. Apple will likely announce the exact release date of the software update at or right after its October event.

iPadOS 16 is expected to be released alongside iOS 16 in September, but Apple delayed the software update until October, possibly to focus on improving Stage Manager after some users criticized the feature’s various shortcomings. Apple says the software update will be labeled iPadOS 16.1 instead of iPadOS 16.0.

Apple Music Classical Music App

In August 2021, Apple announced the acquisition of Primephonic, a classical music service. At the time, Apple said it planned to launch a dedicated classical music app in 2022, combining Primephonic’s user interface with other features.

Very few details are currently known about the dedicated Apple Music Classics app or when it might launch, but with 2022 wrapping up, it should appear soon.
