WhatsApp starts testing video calls with up to 32 people

WhatsApp

It’s been days since we’ve heard anything about WhatsApp. Remember, the beta version of the app is always changing a lot in a few weeks, with new features starting to be tested on many devices. On this occasion, it was Mark Zuckerberg who announced the call link to join the video call with one click. In addition, secure encryption of video calls with up to 32 people at the same time may arrive in the near future.

Zuckerberg announces two key innovations for WhatsApp: It’s about video calling

In a brief message on his official Facebook profile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced two of the most interesting WhatsApp novelties in recent months. First, we declare to you:

Starting this week, we’re introducing call links on WhatsApp, so you can share the link to start a call with one click. We’re also testing secure encrypted video calls with up to 32 people. More news to come soon.

As we have read, first of all we present the call link on WhatsApp to join a video call with just one tap. This feature sounds familiar to us since iOS 21 introduced it for FaceTime when the software was announced at WWDC15 a year and a half ago. This feature will allow users to be added to video calls without having to add them one by one. Instead, they can join using a link.

Zuckerberg, on the other hand, announced the start of testing video calls for up to 32 people. These video calls, like all current forms of video calling, will be encrypted, ensuring the privacy and security of video calls above all else. We don’t know the arrival date for this feature. Only we will have information soon. Still, the link to join the video call will arrive starting this week.

We haven’t seen the progress proposed around the WhatsApp community a few months ago. A modification to what we understand as a group, which will allow us to manage large numbers of people in multiple groups. We got major news a few months ago, but we still don’t have proof in beta form that this reality will be on our screens. We just have to wait.
