Apple cancels plans to increase production of iPhone 14 series

According to sources, iPhone 14 sales in the Chinese market got off to a bad start, down about 11% compared to last year’s iPhone 13. Apple is scrapping plans to ramp up production of the new iPhone 14 this year after expected demand expectations fell short, according to people familiar with the matter.

Apple has told suppliers that it will reduce production of as many as 6 million iPhone 14 units in the second half of the year to keep production at 90 million, roughly the same as last year and in line with Apple’s initial forecast for this summer, according to people familiar with the matter.

Unlike usual, the non-professional models don’t have any major design changes, while the pro models have. Demand for the iPhone 14 Series Pro models is strong due to these new features. Apple has asked its manufacturing partner Hon Hai to increase production of the model. Apple has asked Hon Hai Foxconn to replace the iPhone 14 production line with iPhone 14 Pro models, and said that after the line switch, iPhone 14 Pro series shipments will account for 60-65% of total iPhone 14 shipments in the second half of 2022 . The iPhone 14 Pro Max accounts for about 30-35% of total iPhone 14 shipments.
