  1. Some people have been bringing up "This isn't how it normally looks, this is exaggerated. This is way better on a CRT tv, etc"

Maybe, yeah. But you can't replicate the CRT look accurately through a YouTube video and you can't expect everyone to have a CRT tv to watch this video or play this game on in 2022… The internal resolution scale shown in this video is that of Native PS1 (1x, not higher or lower) with the exception of a 16:9 aspect ratio, and 9x (4k).

  2. I genuinely don't like the way PS1 games look at high resolutions. Visual artifacts are much more noticable. I always think of Metal Gear Solid; the faces look so blurry at higher resolutions because they were designed with a certain level of detail that would look good specifically at native resolution. The smooth polygons look weird with low-res textures. Everything looks so much more consistent at native resolution.

  3. When emulating GT2 for the first time back in the day, I've noticed how ridiculously high-res were some random tiny texture bits, like for example a manufacturer logo on some cars, compared to the rest of the environment.

  4. Gran Turismo 2 was such a huge deal for me back them when I was young. I remeber having a ball playing this game for hours and hours after school when I had like 7 to 9 years. And speding a lot of nights playing all night with my older teenage brother who at the time teach me the basics and the advanced stuff of the game. Together we beat the game 100% I remember it took us so long! Hell man! This game is jewel from ps1

  5. I think that if you release an update for the mister more focused on filter improvement, more compatible with the duckstation it would end this discussion, we all know that there are positive and negative points, and that the duckstation depending on the game gets better, and the mister it has good filters, and it needs an improvement

  6. One of the most noticeable shortcomings of PS1 was the draw distance and terrain pop-in. If you're driving fast in GT1 you basically have no clue where you're heading until you're 50 meters away from a turn.

  7. The game could have looked almost as good on the PS1 if the console was 5 times more expensive (More memory, a faster CPU and a more powerful graphics co-processor that supported proper floating point math)

  8. Man, there's really a big difference. On my TV, I play on the PS2 and they use the PS1 Native Resolution and it looks fine, but the 4k 60 version is how I saw PS1 games

  10. How did you get that split screen simultaneously in real-time? I’ve tried endlessly with other PS1 games but have had to screen record 2 versions (native&upscaled) and try to overlay half the screen in premiere pro post-edit lol Great Video! Thanks 🙏

  11. Native by far the best. Upscale looks horrendous. I play always in the original resolution, the game was design taking into account every graphic aspect of that time.

  12. Nice! I wish this was how the game looked like back when I was 6. I always loved this game and is still my favorite Gran Turismo thanks to the selections of cars, cool looking track and beautifully designed menus, but probably a lot of it comes from nostalgia both from my childhood playing it and from the era I never lived when those cool sports cars were popular. Even the Arcade mode was really cool and had a nice menu i loved interacting with. The only thing I always really hated was the image resolution. That was the big letdown for me, a nice resolution intro video of the game and a low resolution image during races… fortunately we can use those emulators now to solve this problem with a bit of tinkering and patience.

  13. I dont recommend using 60fps, the game's tire grip simulation checks are calculated with 30fps in mind so you will experience tons of understeer and thus, slower lap times. also it reallllly screws up rally events to the point where the car doesn't slide and makes dirt feel paved

  14. I kinda feel like I prefer the game to be in its native resolution. When everything gets up scaled it starts to look kinda flat and a bit generic. I feel like the native resolution sells the illusion of crowds and depth better than the “cleaned up” graphics. But that’s just me.

  15. I brought a high end laptop just to play the older Gran Turismo's. GT 7 is okay but I love GT1 to GT4. Thanks Man because if I didn't run into your videos I wouldn't have learned about how to emulate games!!.

  16. Was this using a PS1 console and gt2 CD? Or is this on a PC?

I have a PS1 but when I plug it into my 40" plasma, the graphics are terrible. I'd love to be able to play gt2 again, but with the quality you have here.

  17. It still looks very impressive at 4k. Just goes to show how much the resolution itself impacts the graphics..they were very restricted back in the 90s by the resolution

  18. Been trying for ages to achieve similar results in Popstarter. De-dithering, smooth textures, GSM 1080i, a bunch of HDMI converters – you name it. Duckstation is truly unmatchable.
