I’ve had my fair share of problems with Retroid in the past. This is once again an attempt at an affordable emulation powerhouse, and I think they might have succeeded.

  1. I'm struggling to see how any of these handhelds are the best bang for your buck. You can find a used Steamdeck for perhaps 50-75$ more than this device (worst case). A Steam Deck is going to outperform this so far and away that it seems like a fairly poor value, actually. Especially when you consider the sentiment that has been reverberated by almost every reviewer stating that the Retroid Pro is way worth it over the base Retroid due to the improvement in power at an additional cost of….yes, 50$. Taking that exact logic, wouldn't it make that much more sense to shell out another 50-75$ on top of that for a used Steam Deck and be able to emulate whatever you want, as well as have all of the other functionality of fairly capable gaming afforded to us by the Steam Deck??

  2. The fact that my Flip broke at the hinge after barely any use and they just sent me a new case to replace it myself left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m just avoiding Retroid altogether. The fact that they just can’t seem to get a unit correct on release is mind blowing.

  3. I was torn between this and the Odin 2. Ended up with an Odin 2 but idk, I reeeeeally like the R4P’s aesthetic. It looks like a proper big brand hand held.

  4. When i was first looking into Emulation Handheld, i was immediately drawn in by the look of the Retroid Pocket, but the fact they keep doing revisions scared me off from them and almost kept me from entering the hobby. Still am interested in the Pocket 4, but haven't been able to justify it

  5. My rp3+ has a broken volume button and the r1 button is faulty where it registers a imput even if you barely touch it, the volume button has very thin tabs that touch the button that tells it to turn up or down and the volume up button is cracked which is a easy fix and I got the circuit for the r1 so I'll just have to replace it but still it's sad that I even had to fix these when I have ps1 controllers that have been used for 30 years and still work

  6. I also had problems with the triggers, I'm waiting for them to send a replacement backplate as they said, thank you for the sincerity of your review you were one of the few who mentioned this serious problem and for 200 dollars this shouldn't happen, I value my money

  7. I did order this one. I have a Retropie for the games I grew up with but I never saw many things that were powerful enough to reliably run PS2. All the reviews say this one will do that so I’ve got one. I also wouldn’t mind steaming some Indie games from my Steam library.

I’m a bit of a handheld junkie since my first Gameboy back in 1989. By the way, I still have it and it still works.

  8. Out of all the reviews you’re the only one I seen who hates it lol also tears of the kingdom doesn’t even run good on the switch 😂

  9. Isn't soy milk really bad for guys? Then factor in almost all soy grown is genetically modified. Plus add in the vegetable oils. A glass once a month maybe.
