Of course, Ross Displayman waited until I’d talked about spring to drop this…

100% Accurate leaker, Ross Young, affectionately known on this show as Ross Displayman has dropped a new report based on the display panels stating that the new, bigger iMac is expected in the Spring of 2022. While many including me were expecting the 27″ model to increase in size with the redesign into 30-32″ territory, all the latest information points to the next iMac retaining the 27″ display size. That’s not to say that the panel is staying the same though. Ross Displayman is pointing to that this will be a 120hz variable refresh rate MiniLED Panel just like those in the latest MacBook Pros. No word right now on resolution but I’d probably throw my guess at 6k, inline with the Pro Display XDR, and still a nice little bump from the previous iMac 5K.

The chances are also that the redesign will come along with thinner bezels and flatter angles too, just like the new 24″ iMac, and it could well be that this panel ALSO becomes the stand alone lower cost display. And by lower cost we’re probably talking $1000 plus. Probably $1500.

But, back to out iMac. We’re expecting with this larger model to have the M1 Pro and M1 Max options, all well as those being available in the 24″ form factor too. However, the larger body may also allow multiple M1 Max SOCs to run in parallel, the M1 Max Duo for what could be an iMac Pro model – though I’m personally not convinced that 27″ will be the biggest iMac that Apple sells. I still think there could be another model, but perhaps not releasing until later in the year. I would point out though, that I have zero evidence for this. Renderboi Apple Tomorrow however, who supplies all of our pretty pictures, says that he wants an M1 Max Duo. I’m still pretty convinced that I was the first to say, probably between November and January that Apple’s Pro desktops would use multiple SOCs like a PowerMac G5. I really hope I’m right.

I’d love to say that the new iMac will rotate like the Pro Display XDR for editing all those sweet sweet TikTok videos, I’d love to say it will get MagSafe charging in the foot of the iMac to charge not just your iPhone, but a more better version of the Magic Mouse, the trackpad and the keyboard. But honestly I don’t think we’re getting all the cool things I invented for the iMac last year. It’s probably just going to be a bigger, faster version of the iMac 24″ that we have right now. But is that such a bad thing?

Hi. This year I purposefully purchased a 2020 Intel MacBook Air for gigging (don’t judge) 🙂
Reason being, I want to leave my much more expensive M1 Max at home. Don’t want it damaged on-stage.
Anyway, my question is, do you think it will still get the full 5-7 years of OS updates, or do you think it will die quickly, and be a forgotten about and unspoken of Mac in a year or two?
Thanks.

Hello. I’ve been having a strange battery-drain issue with my series 6 watch of late, ever since Monterey and WatchOS 8X. Prior to all these updates, my watch would go two days on a charge, I’d wake up with around 50% or so. Now, when I wake up, it’s either dead, or around 10%. Strangely, when I went away for a gig and had one machine with me, it was normal. Could it be draining doubly fast as it’s always tethered to two Mac’s for watch unlock? I can’t troubleshoot this one and it’s been baffling and annoying me in equal measure.
