Excited to share my M1 Pro 14” MacBook Pro Review! With a new design, the return of essential ports, powerful M1 Pro chip, Liquid Retina XDR 120hz ProMotion display and much more. Right away I can tell you, the MacBook Pro is back and better than ever! If you are thinking of buying one of these new MacBook Pros then this is the video for you where I cover everything you need to know! My spec: M1 Pro 14” MacBook Pro in Silver with 1TB SSD. 14 and 16” versions, 14” best of both worlds (performance and portability). Base model 14” price $2000, comes with M1 Pro, 8 core CPU, 14 core GPU, 16 GB ram, 512GB SSD. I upgraded SSD to 1TB for $200. Colour, previously space grey on 15” MacBook Pro Touch Bar. I chose silver, two reasons. One, contrast with new black keyboard inlay. Two, fading of space grey colour on previous Mac. Less likely to happen on silver colour, since silver is closer to natural colour of aluminium, compared to the darker space grey. I love the more modern and squared off design. Feels solid in the hand and like the embossed name. A bit thicker yes, but creates room for more cooling and functionality. SD card slot is great. Return of MagSafe is brilliant. Still get 3 versatile USB C ports. HDMI, not need for dongle to hook up projector. New black keyboard inlay, especially like contrast with silver body. No more touch bar. Prefer hardware keys, can press without taking eyes of screen. Kept touch ID, great! Keyboard is a pleasure to type on. Perfect level of key travel, feels clicky and keys are stable. Trackpad is big, accurate and truly best in class. Liquid Retina XDR display is amazing! Thin bezels allows for larger screen in smaller physical body. 120hz makes a big difference. Makes computer feel super smooth. Plenty bright, has high contrast and colour accuracy – best display I have, edit photos and video. Notch enables opportunity for more vertical screen space. Here we go, this MBP is lighting fast. SSD super fast, 5.5GB read/write. Booting up faster than ever, wakes from sleep faster than I can raise the screen. Not much of a gamer but I do enjoy MineCraft. Glad to see that this runs very well, easily getting a smooth 60fps. Let’s get to work. I spend many hours each day editing videos is Final Cut Pro. FCP has never performed better. Rendering is very fast. Working in 4K timelines is effortless. Exports are faster than I have ever seen. Editing in FCP is 2 to 3 times faster in every way compared to my previous 15” MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. 14” also stay whisper quiet and barely gets warm. The speakers, webcam and mics too have all been improved. I found the battery life to perform well! M1 Pro will do better than even more powerful M1 Max 4 hrs of heavy 4K editing and 10 hrs of mixed use. At the end of the day, I am impressed in every way with the new M1 Pro 14” MacBook Pro. Happy to have the performance I need in a form factor that is easy to travel with and take on the go! Apple have learned from it’s previous generation of MacBook Pro and have made what I believe to be the best MacBook Pro yet!
