What's the one MacBook Pro accessory you couldn't live without?
I’m in my mid-seventies just hoping set-ups make a 16” MacBook lighter.
I had a 13inch MacBook Pro for several years at my job until it finally started to have battery performance issues and I received a new company issued 16 inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip. I was so excited. I didn’t mind getting the 16 inch as I don’t travel for work and I love the extra real estate with such a large screen. Guess what happened after I got the laptop…I was asked to travel…to Europe for a week. None of the bags I have could accommodate the size, so I had to buy something new and the weight killed me on the trip. We had to walk from the hotel to the office every day and the laptop along with all of the other things I had to carry around made for a very heavy backpack. No doubt it is an excellent machine, but I do regret getting the 16 inch since I do pair it when working from home with an external monitor so I don’t really need the laptop screen to be so big. As far as my favorite accessory, it’s a toss up between the MX Master 3S mouse or the Logitech MX Mini Mechanical Keyboard for Mac. Both excellent peripherals!
I feel like the size complaint is a European thing…. Cause in America, our tables are quite big and fits nicely… 😂😁
You should get a 2nd studio display. Multi monitors are great. I’m planning on getting 2 as an upgrade from my current 4K displays
Mx master 3s indeed is great, but I get the impression it causes interference in my teams calls – causing my voice to go robotic when using my airpods pro. 13 inch m1 .. i do use a apple trackpad on the left hand side on top of the mouse, it’s amazing!

I got that exact SanDisk 2TB Extreme and my MacBook Pro M1 Pro was a terrible pairing. It couldn't even drive it at 40MB/s. Old non-SSD WD Passport USB-A drives through a dongle get four times that speed. I also tried it on an Intel Mac Pro and got the same, so I don't think it's the chipset, as other reviews are saying.
Very nice setup Mark. I've got the "poor man's" version of every one of your items, starting with a refurbished M1 MBP. They're all essential for my purposes and meet my less demanding needs (I'm not a YouTuber).

how to start youtube channel ? only mbp 16 can handle merge 2 streams from dslr…… great tech knowledge better display for 2-5k? no way only apple. s*ck dell / samsung / alienware 🤣

only 1 thing: every time you mention that the 16 is heavy im like is he serious? then you said you go to the gym???
that computer is just so very awesome! like you i use it paired to a SD + a LG 5k2k 34 inch (way lesser quality but the height and dimensions are an exact match to the studio for some reason! because i hate wires i put the macbook inside a metal arc upright behind the monitors, an ipad infront of the SD for the extra screen and the result looks awesome and is wires free
Bought a SansDISK Pro Extreme 8:17 at a great price last Cyber Monday (unfortunately I have been fighting health issues since).
But after reading the press stories I was wondering what I should do with it. Thx for answering the question.

Nice set up very similar to mine , love the MX master 3 as well. But the Mac Studio is my main composing machine the 16” pro is on the other side of my studio so don’t use it with studio display. I do think the Studio display is awesome use it mainly with my Mac Studio and 12.9” iPad Pro believe it or not I run a Apple and IT support business ! As a musician and IT guy Apple gear is very addictive keep up the good work Mark!
I have a few of those SanDisk lanyard drives also… But I will not be getting more. I believe the problem SanDisk and Western Digital are having is recent and their lack of transparency on the issue, put the bottom of the list at the moment.
For the display, I think Apple Studio Display is an over kill with that price tag! I have been using Asus ProArt series for a long time and they are truly Studio Display killler with mostly same functions (Actually more connection options) for less than half of the price.
I dunno why but I prefer my MX anywhere 3 over the MX master 3. Maybe I have small hands.
Cool! FYI, I hear Samsung's ViewFinity monitor is awesome at almost half the price. As a regular consumer, I won't be dishing out those kind of funds for the Studio. Nuh uh! 🙂
I agree, the MX Master 3S is awesome! It’s the perfect mouse for me. The quiet click is the absolute best and whenever I have to use another mouse, the click just sounds so loud and awful. I have the grey as well, but be aware, after some time of use, you will get dark spots where your hand touches it. Mine looks pretty terrible now. There is a large dark grey area where my thumb sits. I’ve heard other people have this problem too. While I love the grey color, I would hesitate to get another one, I would go back to the black. Cheers Mark!

Based on the wallpaper on your Studio Display, you are a Mercedes F1 team supporter.
That Insta360 webcam was terrific, but unless you are doing a presentation that requires you to move around, you are better off with a more affordable alternative.
Always interesting to see your setups Mark! I actually got rid of my monitor(s) and now run my MacBook Pro 16 on my desk by itself – with just the MX Master 3 for company. I got fed up trying to find a monitor that was better than the Mini-LED display on the MacBook so I gave up and now run just the MacBook which is a setup I am loving right now (particularly the minimalism). My MX Keys keyboard has even been confined to the cupboard although I still call on it occasionally.
I have my 16" M1 Max MBP connected to a 42" LG C2 OLED and a Studio Display with CalDigit TS 4 connected to a Synology 918+ NAS, a Drop Keyboard with Holy Panda switches, Razor Viper Ultimate mouse and a Woo Audio Fireflies tube amp for my Audeze LCD2 headphones…….. so pfffffttt!!! 😜
