Apple’s M2 Ultra powered Mac Pro is the final step in their Apple Silicon transition. But without GPU support or meaningful expansion, is it worth nearly double the price of a comparable Mac Studio?

  1. i dont get why you would buy anything like this, i get that the performance is high, but most high performanceis needed for gaming, not a lot of the popular games can downloaded on mac, and if this isnt for gaming, than a nomal office commputer should be fine, and if its for designing games and stuff like that, a gaming computer should work just fine

  2. The Mac Pro has got to get it together or it’s a dead product line. The next gen needs to have something like non-proprietary expansion slots and the expansion slots to have something to make the price worth it compared to the studio.

  3. Ok… Linus, I need you to convince Mark to go Linux. And while Markiplier is pretty happy about his M1 purchase and it does everything he needs it too. He still games on Windows 10 or worse… Windows 11. And Mark recently streamed dissing that Linux is this create code from the ground up OS and that it doesn't even-RUN GAMES. He's basing his knowledge of Linux off of 20 years ago. He's never even heard of Mint, Ubuntu, nor has heard of Steam Proton, or even how the Steam Deck is BASED on Linux. You need to inform him, or at least contact Bob to tell him that his idea of Linux is horribly outdated.

  4. Ur deeply not smart at all
It's made for a small portion of people who's work and business depend on some PCI cards like audio producers or studios
Logically it's impossible for ltt to successfully criticise Apple

  5. If you don't know why they made it, then it probably wasn't for you. 😉 It was most likely made for Professionals in the Video and Audio Post sectors. The Post house that I work at is upgrading to the Mac Pros because we need the PCI expansion slots for Pro Tools HDX cards, and Fibre cards. Yes, you could use Thunderbolt expansion chassis and we did, but wanted an all in one system for out Post house. ( But I WILL be getting a M2 Mac Studio for my home studio… )

  6. I think this is one of the best video's made yet about the M2 Ultra Mac Pro. I switched to Apple back in 2009. I really loved everything about it. The "playfulness" of the OS. Which honestly, seems to be gone as well. As well as the "ease of use." Which is still there in a big regard, but i loved it that Apple didn't constantly bothered me with updates like Windows did. Nowadays, it seems that Apple has been catching up when it comes to that.

I have a 16-core 2019 Mac Pro. Which i do really love. I can at least upgrade to some of the "newer" MPX GPU's. Even though i mostly use logic Pro X. I do encounter some limits when it comes to my GPU. Which is only an AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB.

The only use case for the "new" Mac Pro seems to be some kind of a big "storage/pro audio" computer. Anything else the Mac Studio would more than enough for indeed about 90% of the pro people.

I'm happy that i can at least still upgrade my GPU as well as my RAM. I can also put in SSD's and audio cards and if i really want i could upgrade my CPU to a 28-core. But i don't think i'll need that.

I do think that Apple silicon is great. But i also think that Apple should've left the Mac Pro intel based with different components available to be able to upgrade later on. At least, until they figured out a comparable way to do this with Apple silicon. It's actually pretty sad for the pro Apple users. I'm counting myself more as a "prosumer." But that doesn't mean it isn't sad for us either. Because eventually i will want to upgrade my machine as well. Which means i have only a choice between the Mac Studio or building a Windows pc again. Which i'm planning on doing anyway since i do want to start gaming on a gaming pc again.

  7. Great review. Mac Studio seems like the obvious choice in most cases. My understanding is that the plan was for the M2 Extreme chip to go into the Pro, but that chip didn't work out as planned. Maybe M3 will work as anticipated and offer a great deal better performance. So, this MacPro is some kind of stopgap, but not really worth the extra price because it doesn't deliver much compared to the Studio. However, if there was a way to easily swap out the current M2 Ultra for an M3 Ultra or M3 Extreme when they become available, then buying a MacPro now would make more sense. But, it just doesn't seem like Apple really has a clear vision for where this MacPro line is going.
