Hey Chris, you said it all so politely and politically correct. I would put it this way⊠If you update immediately, when a new operating system comes out⊠Youâre an idiot. You might luck out and everything will be fine, but youâre still an idiot. I wait at least three or four months. Also, I just donât understand why there needs to be a new operating system every year. Friend of mine upgraded too soon and several of his Adobe programs do not work correctly anymore. He had to roll back through Time Machine.
update or upgrade ? let's be clear here as difference is quite big.
Any new drivers for 3rd party plugins will lag…..developers need time to develop……software 101
With a fairly new MacBook Pro with AppleMI chip, I hadn't noticed that it was set to auto updates. So it changed to Sonoma last weekend, and my 49-key MIDI controller went crazy, interfacing with Logic Pro X. The controller manufacturer confirmed that they're not ready for Sonoma. Even worse, switching back to Ventura was a nightmare and consumed 3 days of phone calls with Apple and several attempts to switch back. It wasn't until the 4th (of 7) Apple advisor, that I learned that procedures for working on the OS and Time Machine operations are different for the Apple vs the Intel chip machines; the first 3 advisors had given me Intel-based solutions. And even then I needed 3 more advisors to get Ventura back. A music producer friend with 20 years of experience is still working on OS Monterey – i.e. 2 generations back. Now I understand why! Thank goodness I had multiple copies of data back-up.
Put simply
If you have the latest m2 Mac and you donât use plug-ins especially from a third-party youâre going to be good to go otherwise leave it alone Just get on with the music
Or if you love bugs stress and pulling out your hair go for it
Software developers must truly hate these continual updates nightmarish
Chris I solved my panning problem. I am a moron, my left speaker was on the right side, and my right speaker was on the left side of my desk. I just assumed like a moron that speaker with the volume, treble, and bass knobs should be on the left side, and apparently that is the right side speaker. So I don't need your help with this issue, I was just a moron.
Chris, quick question, why is my logic panning in the wrong speaker? When I pan left, it comes out right speaker, and vice versa. How do i fix this. It is happening in Garageband as well. I am using a mac book pro laptop 2012, and i have a cheap pair of kinyo computer speakers.
Iâm always using the oldest version thatâs possible and only update when software really needs a Mac Os update. Works perfectly and itâs always very stable.
Apple is more concern about drama not music production.
I updated without seeing this first. Logic and Arturia have been running just the same as before the update. I haven't noticed anything different as of yet.
Before I say anything else, I would like to say that you, Chris, have been such an amazing resource and teacher to me in my learning Logic Pro X as well as my MacBook Pro.
Almost 3 years have elapsed since my first look into YouTube for help, and Iâm happy to tell you that of the masses of people posting videos, your videos and generally your presentations have become my only source for times when I need help..
Thank you for your kindness and generosity and for making this 52 years old ex iron worker turned joyous (tentatively hopeful) music producer.
Cheers to you and, blessings to you always.
Now, I did the update in a brain dead moment and, the pit in my stomach came from my MacBookâs âsystem too slowâ warning becoming the only function which appears to be unhindered by my updated MacBookâŠ
I will check back in at a later time and Will hopefully have a brighter report to share.
ap đ
If it ainât broke, donât fix it.
Your channel is truly awesome love your vids!! Very informative, could you describe in detail how to set up a proper headphone/cue mix in logic I donât seem to understand. Iâve watched the vid you made on this and it seems you can only do this if your interface has separate internal software am I correct? I have a UA 476p which was 4 outputs a two headphone inputs, is it achievable?
I wouldn't, i waited to much for Plugin Alliance to work in Ventura for taking the risk now, i don't need new wallpapers.
Saving you 6 minutes: almost no plugins are officially confirmed as compatible.
I just checked with Waves and they told me that they haven't tested with Sonoma, (Waves v14 is not compatible) so if you use waves do not update. And v 14 was there latest update. As far as logic itself I would not update until the next logic update comes and it tells you it needs you to update. Otherwise it's probably not completely configured for it.
I'm on Big Sur still and will be for a while since my workstation is a Ryzentosh so I don't want to break my system đ
Iâm using Catalina, Monterey & Ventura.
I boot off external Thunderbolt enclosures so My Macâs have the same macOS they originally came with.
Iâll update to Sonoma on one (external enclosure) to test it out.
This way if something breaks Iâll have my other older drives to fall back to.
But, I will say for music production, if it ainât broke why fix it.
evrig daw and plugins i have works with Sonoma with rosetta instaled atleast for me i always use all my daws in rosetta mode
iâve been on the beta of Sonoma since July. it hasnât presented a single problem either Logic or any of my third party plugins. beautiful OS. nothing to be scared of
All good here so far on a 2019 intel imac
I just updated now Cinema 4D doesn't work.
This vid is about a major update. But even intermediate small updates can ruin your system. An intermediate update of Monterey whiped my whole midi setup from my system. So, if updating is not necessary, and all your gear is working well, then donât update. You cannot afford the troubles for a few gimmicks.
Im sick of the OS names. Just give me the OS number.
After Slate plugins took over half a year to get their plugins working on Monterey, I just stay a year behind on my system as Logic always seems to support the previous OS for that length of time.
I wish the current logic was for availble for older intel macs.
And newermac could go back a couple versions. To ealier os versions.
Thats the one thing i hate about macs they update the system way too much and they dont allow new machines to go back a few is versions and vice versa.
Very soon no intel macjines will be able to run the latest os.
Fortunately they can run tne latest windiws and linux.
The other problem is on newer macs once the internal drive goes your machine is bricked.
And will not even boit from external drives.
Apple needs to fix this on m1 and m2 machines as you cannot replace the ssd or memory ever.
Thanks for your great video and tips. By the way, you strongly remind me of Mr. Clarke from Stranger Things! đYou got a new sub đ
Just donât do it. Youâll inevitably have plug-in problems.
You should have made an STL âmodelâ of your current mac before updating so you could virtualize both mac setups
This is excellent advice. I've been using Logic since the early 90s and have many plug-ins and out board gear that are often compromised if I update an OS to early!
I'm having problems with STL Tonality plugins, after the update.
Jeez, Iâve been subbed to you before your mustache went grey! (No worries, Iâm pushing 60) I love your content. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. đ
Just updated to Sonoma and my plugins that were crashing all month after a previous update are up and running. Go figure…
My Apogee Quartet no longer works after installing Sonoma.
like… doesn't say anything this video
I really wish I saw this before I updated. My interfaces work but I can't get any sound out of Logic X when plugged into my interfaces. I guess I'll just have to wait for some updates.
Updated my M1 mini without thinking about it. Scarlett 2i4 and MPK mini work fine. Neural DSP is good . I did look up izotope though and it's technically not supported, but I haven't tried it yet.
im having issue with my pro tools
I will only update when the plugin alliance releases their version…previously I updated earlier and struggled a lot… I can't even use the paid versions lol đ
Rule of thumb: No.
