  1. In the late 90’s, the was a great gateway computer commercial: a guy is driving a convertible with an “m6” computer and a new “m7” billboard goes up…still holds true today.

  2. Just picked up a Refurbished M2 Studio Max with 1 TB SSD, cannot wait to get it… Was actually looking for the M1 but saw they just got M2's in and pulled the trigger..

  3. Apple updating the hardware spec and chip every year is to stay competitive, Intel and AMD releases new processor every year too.

The performance gain is real at least for the M2 chip, the more transistors they can pack into it, it naturally translate to more performance and efficiency.

You don't have to upgrade every time Apple release a new version of their hardware.

  4. I'd be upgrading from a 2013 Mac Pro, so I think I'd be good. It'll be awhile since I just got a 2021 Refrub 16in M1 MacBook Pro and I gotta pay it off. I will be able to wait until the M3 gets thrown in the Studio…. if they do it next year.

  5. You are just ranting… you feel salty because you spent so much money into your latest last year) device just became outdated this year (I feel you)… I had the money to the buy the M1 Ultra, but I didn't because I had the work macbook pro m1. Now that I switch employer, I had to return the macbook, and I was given a windows laptop… I'm more productive in Mac, so I thought I could buy a cheaper refurbished M1, but when I checked the price on the market place only dropped by about 15-20%, so I decided to get the latest one this year, and bam! I got the M2 max… I have no plans to upgrade in the future, just like my iPhone 11 pro max, which still satisfies my needs and whims, I might replace it only if it got broken, or no longer supported by Apple.

  6. I wouldn't say it is worth upgrading from M1 to the M2 in your instance. However, anyone still using an intel Mac and want to upgrade that machine, I would say it would be worthwhile to update to the M2 over a cheaper M1 machine.

  7. Serves you right for listening to Apple rumors! LOL! Clearly, last year's Apple (whatever) purchaser is NOT the target audience for this year's (whatever). The target customer is from 2 or 3 years ago, and always has been. This is true for Macs, true for iPhones and true for iPads. BTW, I only buy from the refurb list. But I'm retired and money saved is way more important than percent performance increase.

  8. Hate to say it but yes every spec bump in the M line (M1,2,3,………128) we'll see in the studio line. Now what people need to realize unlike their unsatiable appetite for the next iPhone. YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THIS WITH YOUR MAC! With the M3 though this is supposed to be the one with a die shrink like the A17. Even with that i'd still wait a few more years. Unless you absolutely positively need to get the most performance period, chill and enjoy your Mac. You aren't missing anything really and everything that the new OS coming out you'll get anyway.

  9. It is unexpected for the Mac Studio to get upgraded after a just a year. For what you mentioned about your M1 Mac Studio, you already future proofed it, so it definitely not worth it to get the M2 Mac Studio.
As a consumer, I am happy to see it, and I just got a M2 Mac Studio hooking it to 2 studio displays to replace my M1 MacBook Pro.

  10. I completely agree with your conclusions based on the fact you already own the previous version, but Apple why would anyone want Apple to sit around and not introduce new products, incremental improvements or not. You already own a very functional machine, but that's not everyone. Let Apple innovate however they like, and you keep giving good advice and ultimately it's up to the individual to decide on value.

  11. Yeah I upgraded from the M1 Max to the M2 Ultra. SSD performance for some tasks was much much better. CPU differences were marginally better. GPU was amazingly faster on X-Plane 12. Huge frame rate improvement. Able to play a few PC games smoothly on the Ultra using the game porting toolkit. I agree that you should not go by Apple's PR. Wait for reviews. Also agree refurb M1 Studios are a good deal.

  12. My simple rule is if there is one out NOW that serves your requirements go for it, regardless what’s coming or not coming and stick with it for a couple of years. They update every little sh** every year now so it doesn’t matter if your m1 is a bit „outdated“ the m2 will be outdated next year and so will potentially the m3

  13. i bought the m1 mac mini when it came out and i haven’t had any issues at all with it and i only have 8gb of ram in it lol

i can only imagine getting a m2 base model thats how good those chips are 🤘🏾👌🏽

  14. I personally think that it is a great thing that Apple upgrading this awesome Mac Studio computer every year, but it doesn't mean that you have to run and buy every year this product.

  15. I don't really get this video. Why would Apple not update their machines to their newest silicon, especially if they already updated their notebooks? Pretty much every PC vendor updates their machines to the latest chips as frequently as possible. They'll almost certainly upgrade the Studio again to M3 Pro in the next 12-18 months, Like you said, you don't have to upgrade every generation, and Apple, even if they would like it, don't expect everyone to either.

And I think that is why they are still referring to Intel benchmarks. If you're a Pro who dropped $3k in 2018 or 2019 on a tricked out iMac Pro or Mac Pro, having a reference to relative performance gains is helpful to know when it makes sense for you to invest again. Obviously these numbers have to be validated by third party reviews, but they're a useful starting metric to at least let you know when it's time to start paying attention and do some research.

  16. I agree with your points. Upgrading a multi-thousand dollar computer to go from 2 minutes down to a minute and 45 seconds?!?! Who would do that. But, as a 2019 Mac Pro (12 core) user that regularly performs a task that takes 5 hours (heavily CPU intensive) I'm certainly looking at the new M2 Ultra Mac Studio. From the benchmarks I've seen for my particular application, I can expect that same 5 hour task to take around 3 and a half hours. Do I really need that? No, but that time saving would be appreciated. However, if I had an M1 Ultra Mac Studio there's no chance I would be upgrading it for the M2 Ultra Mac Studio. I expect to keep my computers for 5+ years. Heck, my MacBook Pro is a 2017 model and I don't see replacing it for another couple of years.

  17. I have an M1 Max Studio, pretty much base spec but with 2TB SSD. I bought it as a refurb because the price was very similar to a new M2 Pro Mini with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. In theory the mini is a bit quicker in some tasks, but I don't care the Studio is a much more capable machine and it's more than enough for my needs. I have to concur with the advise here – if you are looking at the M2 Studio, then look at the M1 refurbs first and put some of the extra cash towards and SSD upgrade as that is something you will more than likely use.

  18. The Mac Studio is actually a "Chassis". This chassis can easily be adapted to accept any silicon iteration. This is the future of Apple products, chip upgrades put into chassis that last 5+ years. I have an M2 Max 16" Macbook Pro with 32. I'm doing video editing with the latest pro-Sony cameras, I do work in blender for 3D printing and the type of online work I do commonly has me opening 40+ tabs on Chrome. I don't think I have exceeded 50% of my system resources. Until I actually use all the system capacity I have, I don't feel the pressure to upgrade AT ALL. Also, the M2 is a stupid move in my opinion. Everyone knows the M3 is going to be the big leap, this is an overclock with a re-arranging of core types. It's great, but the 3-nanometer process is going to squash this substantially. Skip this one and save your money to use in a year if you absolutely have to have a faster machine….that you can't fully utilize….to just feel cool. I like feeling cool, but… it's expensive. I love your videos and keep going!
