  1. I went with 16 Inch Silver M1 Max, 64 GB of Ram, 32 GPU Cores and 2 TB of SSD. I have thought of 4TB but that would $1000 more. 2 TB was $400 more than the 1 TB. I am still waiting for mine to arrive, originally it said, Dec 10th – 23rd, than the next day it got moved up to November 17th – 24th. Then it went to November 15th.

I am going to install my Creative Cloud and see how fast each of the apps loads on the new Mac Book Pro with all that memory, and graphic cores, it will be awesome. Then I am going to get Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Mainstage and Compressor. I may just do the Free Trial for a 90 day and get the Motion and Compressor, that way I spread out my cost for the apps.

  2. I want to see speed comparisons of Handbrake Conversions, Lightroom Classic File Exports, Premiere Pro Exports on new BacmBook Pro vs Intel MacBook Pro!

  3. I have an iMac Pro but going to wait until next year when they bring out the new iMacs (hopefully with 30/32 inch screen). Am interested to see your general stress testing, maybe with some video files/a large render might be interesting. Testing some of those lovely huge files outputted from your Sony A1, RAW files, maybe do some tests with 10bit 4.2.2 high data rate media, some real heavy lifting!

  4. A test with 3 – 4 50Mpixel RAW files opened in Photoshop and Capture One also open (or Lightroom) would be interesting. And perhaps opening a massive stitched file with several hundred Mpixel in Photoshop, trying to work with it and monitoring the RAM while doing it. I am currently working with 128GB RAM having no issues what so ever. I once had 32GB and it was a nightmare. Never had 64GB and I guess the extremely fast SSD will be ok for swapping if needed?! – And by the way: Have fun with your new gear. I think you will be happy with it. :o)

  5. Well, hmmm, I pulled the trigger on the MBP 16 Max right after it came out. Exact same configuration as yours, so this is VERY timely. I currently have the MBP 15” from 2015, which I found out afterwards was a bit of a dog. I currently work Ps and LrC on both the MBP and a Dell laptop with Win. After much to-ing and fro-ing and a lifetime on Windows, I’ve decided to go all in on Macs as I seem to have fewer problems on that platform. The killer for me was being on a Zoom call with the Dell and an attached 27” monitor in a photo class setting and trying to show images with both Ps and LrC open and transferring from one to another. The handoff was painfully slow. And yes, I had everything maxed out on the Dell, but it just could not handle all of the graphics shifting. Plus the general overhead on the Win machines becomes a problem after a while even after clearing cache and temp files regularly and keeping the registry clean.
So, yes, please push the graphics interface (including a separate monitor) together with file access and switching between Ps/LrC/ACR, plus throw in some video and audio.
I’m hoping that this becomes my dream machine!

  6. I am ordering one of the MacBook Pro (M1) and will be curious to see how you think it is going to work with Photoshop CC 2021-22. Also what do you use for external storage. I have trouble finding one which syncs well with my current Mac book Pro? thank you!!

  7. Hi Colin always a pleasure watching your unboxing… how about Photoshop with a huge pano? Something thick and huge to have an idea about M1 Max … thank you ☺️

  8. I believe a few of us might be highly nervous on how to reinstall Photoshop 2022 from an old computer onto the new MacBook Pro. A simple tutorial would be so helpful for many of us…

  9. Hey Colin! I'm excited for these reviews as I am about to upgrade my 2015 MacBook Pro. I am looking more at the M1 Pro but would be curious what you see as the benefits of the M1 Max. I am also interested in how the performance is for PS and LR/LRC. Thanks for sharing your unboxing and I admit I'm a little jealous! LOL

  10. Interesting but as stated very expensive in the UK. Re poss videos am always battling with considering processing photos on a laptop as opposed to a desk top. Can’t accurately calibrate a laptop screen or can you? without using an external calibrated monitor of course. Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

  11. I would like to see several 5gb + open files, 50+ layers, photoshop complex montages, where smart objects are moved from one file to another. Save speed, filters, memory usage while at the same time there is another programs open and 30 tabs google crome :). Phush to the max

  12. Looks really nice and I prefer the shape to the old one.
Here in the UK this retails at £3299.00 so not cheap by any means but I look forward to the comparisons and comments you will make.
