ALL THE GEAR FOR THIS VIDEO IS LISTED BELOW πŸ‘‡

The 2023 Mac Studio was announced at WWDC23 this year, and having owned pretty much every M-series Mac from the M1 Mac Mini, M1 MacBook, M2 MacBook Air, to the more pro MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with the M2 Pro, I had to check this out. Here’s what I found after two months!

  1. I have the same SD card issue with my CalDigit TS4 dock that's plugged into my 14" MBP M1 Pro, FWIW. Very minor annoyance, but would be nice if I didn't have to put cards in twice every time.

  2. My 2019 i7 8700k beat the M2 Pro in the Logic benchmark, it also has faster USB and SSD transfer rates and it's compatible with all my favorite hardware and plugins too. Best of all, its performance isn't reduced by up to 40% by a "Rosetta mode". I was excited about Apple Silicon until I tried it for myself. I think it sucks on every conceivable level for music production and it's best suited for visual artists. Save your money and stick with intel

  3. Kyle, I just switched out my 27" iMac i7 Intel (2015) for the Mac Studio M2 MAX and what a change – editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio – 4K ProRes files. Editing media from external SSDs and no longer need to create proxy files.

  4. Can the Mac Studio M2 Max handle well with well-known editing programs such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, and Da Vinci, smoothly and easily for video clip production and wedding production, because I work in the field of wedding photography and I have a photography camera such as the Sony A7S3 and Canon Mark IV 5D Please, I want a frank answer. Thank you

  5. Just about your ssd, card you have to get in and out several times, i have the same issue on my 27 inch imac as with a usb key on the M1 Mac mini i don’t think it is an apple issue. thx for the review I intend to get a mac studio to replace the imac since the Mac mini is already good but need more ram etc… the fact u can use any screen is just the best thing apple did. For the sound issue really I’m not really surprised and understand your point, the internal speaker has always been for the chim to tell u it’s alive! On my g4 etc always had speakers! And when u have headphones it’s just a blast. For the slipping issue well since this is not a tour anymore it can’t stick into place, on the Mac mini ports are in the back and it’s always the same thing but if apple do something to get your computer to stick to your desk people will complain ahahah for sure on the old imac it’s heavier so don’t move that much .. but we are at a time where it’s becoming difficult to find negative things so people always have their own little things, life ain’t perfect but when you see how the computer has evolved it’s outstanding! Imagine people still using G5 tour that are really heavy !!!

  6. Hi Kyle, Thank you so much for this informative video. I was actually worrying a lot about the storage stuff like should I go for the 1TB model or stick with the base model but this really video has convinced me properly. Thanks again πŸ˜‰

  7. Waiting for the new car wash venture 🀣. Thanks for the video Kyle, was helpful for me to decide if I should upgrade from M1 mini to the M2 Max!!

  8. I'm running a Mac Studio with M1 Max / 64 Gbyte / 1TByte SSD. I am totally happy with this machine and it will serve me for the next couple of years easily.

  9. Late to the conversation but buy a cheap roll of non slip shelf liner (it’s like rubber material will small bulbs) and cut a small circle that fits under the Mac Studio. Will no longer slide and you’ve spent ~USD 1.00 and no gluing or screwing anything to your desk. I did this for my M3 iMac and works like a charm.

  10. Anyone who posts β€œthe truth about” any subject is an idiot whose headlines are written by 14 year olds. You don’t have enough knowledge on the subject to proclaim the truth about anything. Embarrassing.

  11. I have a M2 Max Mac studio with the studio display and the display speakers solve the internal speaker issue + the webcam is excellent. They are expensive, but the Apple screens do tend to last.

  12. Thank you for testing the Mac Studio M2 Max base version. I am on a budget and would like to do 4k editing without overpaying and your video has helped ease my anxiety over getting the base. I was worried about storage but your info on the external drive has helped me out. Can you please clarify and reply with a link to the external drive that you are using? I think it’s criminal what Apple charges for their storage.

  13. Great video and setup. Do your friends have maxed out ram in their systems? I've been wondering what users and applications would benefit for large amounts of ram in a meaningful way.

  14. I'm at about 7:30 in the video. You are mentioning the "poor" audio. Where is the audio coming from? If it's your monitor or external speakers, what does it have to do with the Mac Studio? I don't get it. Gianniβ™₯

  15. Question for you or for anyone who picked up this model. My Macbook was dying, so I ended up upgrading to this model last week, and it is just excellent and quiet. My main issue has been a 'warm' smell from the back that my wife described as "alkaline." I'm unsure how to describe it, so opt for her description. The first day, I could smell it from my chair (the unit is on the back corner of my desk), but now, after a couple of days of use, I can only smell it if I move right next to the unit. I looked on discussion boards and whatnot, but I haven't found anything about this. Everything runs normally. And some have said this is a 'new computer' smell. I'm wondering if you noticed something similar on your unit?

  16. thanks for this review, kyle. i've been in the process of replacing my 2018 imac pro for some time now. i've been waiting for the new m3's, but i don't really need a mobile system and find the mac studio more practical for the desk. the important thing for me now was that you are satisfied with the performance of the max for your purposes and that you don't necessarily need an ultra with 128 gb and 4 tb ssd πŸ˜‰

  17. I’m curious how it would run with the light room? I have been thinking about getting one and switching from PC. I guess if it’s great for video then it’s faster on photo editing?

  18. Thanks for a super nice video!
I'm looking to purchase a M2 Max MacStudio this weekend. I do all of my video editing in Premiere Pro and I usually connect external hard drives (90% of the time LaCie 4TB USB-C).
What would you say is the most important specs in my upcoming MacStudio?
I need some help in putting together the best version for me πŸ™‚
    Thanks in advance!
