Cant Transfer File from Mac to External Hard drive? Drive Formatted in NTFS?

WARNING!!! Formatting means the same as deleting or erasing! Also I am not responsible if anything goes wrong so do at your own risk!

If you cannot transfer a data/file from your Mac to your external hard drive it may be because the external hard drive is formatted in a NTFS file system which is used for a Windows PC only. If it has a NFTS file system then only a Mac / Apple computer can read it but cannot write to it.
Therefore if you want to move files between a Mac & Windows and vice versa you need a file system that works for them of them (fat32 or expat).

Important Note: Remember when you format a drive you are basically deleting everything on that drive!

  2. Wow. I have spent twenty years using windows. I am not an expert by far. However my family usually relies on me for help. I have switched to an iPhone a few years ago. I love the freedom I have with sending video and pictures to my mom and dad. However my phone is full. I have battled transferring to my windows for over a year. Recently I bought an used Mac air. I could not believe how easy it was to back up my pictures. Well this is where you come in. I filled the max up. I tried to off load onto an external hard drive for hours. This was not working. I saw a video about a external hard drive that would work. I bought two LaCie 2tb drives. Figured I would make two back up copies. Again I was stuck. You got me accross the finish line. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate being able to watch and learn. I am now subscribed to your channel. I want to learn this Mac. Thank you again
