At WWDC 2023, Apple revealed iPadOS 17. It’s not the biggest of updates for the iPad, but there are some gems in there. In this video, I reveal my six favourite iPadOS 17 features.

What are you looking forward to the most in iPadOS 17?
doesn't samsung and android already have these features? Just wondering
Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' – does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
Good job bro.
When comes in india
Are there still 6 icon columns in landscape mode and 5 columns in portrait mode? (“feature” by Apple) I don’t use widgets
It was a great update for iPads because last year the only thing we got was a redesigned weather app.
the most stupid thing is that standby didn’t come to the ipad and the ipad is the most reasonable device to have this feature but no we have to wait until ip os 18
The new stage manager is working fine on my M1 iPad Pro 12.9. Seems like on my M1 Mac.
Great review and thoughts. Enjoyed that very much. Thank you for sharing the great insight. I used to use apple exclusively and absolutely nothing else. What began with simply curiosity, a few years back I wanted to just have touched an android. This was well back before Huewei id I spelled that correctly became ban here in the US. It was also before or right about the time Apple began to base all their decisions on four key elements in which I angrily disagree and it's not in light of the almighty customer.
Money, Greed, Power, and Market Dictation. Simply put this is Apple today. Contrary the Apple that I exclusively used and grew to love, rose to the top and whom I admired and could relate was a company based off a vision and motivated by their sheer determination to become the very best software company in the world. In other words their passion for innovation and to do so brilliantly.
I decided to give Android a try and within 6 months I had won and also nationally recognized for articles and blog posts I had written exclusively about android. I was utterly captivated by the countless interfaces.
All of that to say, as of yesterday caved and arrived at my door, an ipad mini 6th gen, Apple pencil 2nd gen and some Airpods Pro 2nd gen. I did however not order an iphone 14 but rather a Pixel 7 regular not the Pro. After seeing your video, I am now considering, ordering an iphone 14 to fully complete my what used to be. Apple ecosystem.
The ipad pro is the very best and of course with the M2 Chip. I already had an 11 inch Samsung Tab S8 flagship tablet so I wanted an ipad that I could hold in one hand that was versatile and still get pencil 2 support. I do need an iphone. Well I want an iphone. Scratch the need ;).
Cheers
Enjoyed
apple when are you going to let me put icons wherever I want them
interactive widgets kinda 12 years late yeah? lmao
How does focus mode work on the iPadOS 17? Like, on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have detailed focus modes. They change on their own when I’m at work or in a car and I set them manually sometimes. Does the iPad change and keep up with your iPhone as well? I haven’t seen anyone mention that actually. I guess I’ll find out in September.
Still no calculator!
Damn what camera are you using? Christopher Nolan’s IMAX camera? Amazing quality.
Your only guess why they didn’t bring Lock Screen is they wanted to pad iPadOS 17 with the lock screen ??? Come on Mark, iPadOS 16 was a huge update and they struggled to get stage manger stable and Lock Screen stable on iOS. Yes apple is a big company but they have 7 different operating systems now and of course so many software teams were busy with vision OS. Craig Federighi explained their strategy when widgets came to iOS 14, they wait until the next year to ensure quality/ thought goes into the execution of the big features for iPad . It’s easy to say apple add this feature but when you’re the engineers responsible for actually shopping it, it becomes a different story.
I just want the ability to format sd cards and write to arduinos with the iPad
I wish those cases offered a portrait mode standing setting (or even two, one for writing and one for facetiming) the landscape mode always gets the love but there’s a wealth of reasons to need/prefer portrait mode and it’s hard to find an aesthetically appealing case that can do so
My family would get one once they offer multi user support. Until then we just wait and live with sharing our macbook pro.
Can you lock the iPad screen while using an external display now? I have no idea why Apple refused to do it before. They assume everyone's using their Magic Keyboard.
It’d be nice to have a calculator like the iPhone!
When Apple "Sherlocks" something it doesn't mean they've added an app that uses system integration unavailable to third parties. It means they've basically included an application or functionality that makes an existing third party app redundant. Apple's Sherlock app was introduced in OS8 as a way to do system-wide search. In 2001, a third party developer created Watson, a better implementation of the idea, including a better UI and more capabilities. About a year later, Apple updated Sherlock, essentially copying all the UI and additional capabilities of Watson, effectively killing it.
Nothing. It’s a trash update. Good video though 👍
(moft bity link is working for me)
Yep, use the health app loads. Tracks my meds, my sleep, my blood pressure and my fitness (VO2 Max). I’m 52 by the way. I agree Mark, totally bizarre why it’s taken so long to get to iPad, and can we have it on MacOS too please Apple?!
Thank you for the video, Mark. Just passing by leaving a like and comment for the algorithm.
Notes is already a keystone in my workflow, and these updates (PDFs, links) are going to propel it to a truly vital platform for just about everything I do.
The external camera support is the most important thing to me, but the stage manager is very close to it as long as there'll be a better external monitor support. I'd love to work with the iPad version of Logic Pro only but due to the very bad external monitor support this is just impossible. I need much more usable real estate on my external 32" monitor when connecting to the iPad. Would this be perfectly supported, I would only need my old MacBook Pro M1 for writing sheet music and could do just everything else with my wonderful iPad Pro 11" M2. It's such a great device! And it could easily replace any computer – as long as the iPadOS wouldn't impede it. This still seems to be Apple's intention. That's sooo sad!
Stranger things have happened – that horse becoming Pope for one 😉
What that thing in the thumbnail?
I’m looking forward to interactive widgets for music and podcasts. Also I wish they updated wallet for widgets
I’m running it on my Pro and so far I’m enjoying it.
Good details, thank you! I feel like they skimmed over some of the new features for iOS 17 in the keynote. Feel better!
