It’s been a while since I’ve personally used MacOS or really an Apple device but that’s not the case for Livakivi and he quite actively still makes use of it but it’s not like the experience is perfect.

  1. For that DR caching issue, now you can turn render cache off globally, and right click a clip and select (manually) to render cache Fusion and/or colour output. So that's basically fully manual render caching on a clip basis.

    I used to run macOS with KVM and libvirt inside my main Linux workstation (that I use for DaVinci Resolve) to deal with Adobe stuff that I have to do due to client requests. Now I just use the AMD GPU I used to pass through to macOS for display output and the 3090 for compute because that's a much more painless desktop experience on Linux.

  2. I watched the videos he makes, his workflow is somehow flawed because even an M1 Pro should have no issues with the types of videos he makes. I've seen way more complex and demanding Videos perform on M1 MacBooks and performance was never an issue, playback + rendering.

  4. More than the experience, I care about the fact the are the biggest running marketing campaign on the planet, and they have been known for using slave labor hand in the past. There is 0% chance I give a single penny to a mega corporation like that. No matter what they sell.

  5. Yeah new macs are crap. Moving away from intel was the worst thing they did. They are really fast but not at things you care about to do any work. Sure I can run some AI workloads fast…but I don't need to run AI workloads fast to do my work and I would be surprised if their chips can out perform a high end Nvidia card which are a pain in the arse to get working on a mac lol.
