macOS Stage Manager: I hate that I LOVE it!

Apple introduced Stage Manager not too long ago, not just on the latest iPad OS but also included in macOS Ventura. But people’s response has been mixed at best. Some are not even sure of the real purpose of Stage Manager. So in this video I’m reviewing macOS Stage Manager and will go through three main aspects of it, plus some tips and trick and ideas for improvement along the way.

  1. I like stage manager. As much as I hated it at launch, I saw myself using it more often.

I am happy more people are jumping into this. This is good especially for old people. And to be honest, a large amount of people, dont multitask on their mac.

  2. I actually like Stage Manager, but only on my iPad Pro, and not so much on my MBP when using multiple monitors.

If Stage Manager is to keep the app windows organized into groups to better manage multitasking, they should have a single Stage Manager dock for all screens, and not separate ones. It doesn't make sense to me that each screen has its own layouts. Personally, I would rather have one stage manager with the appropriate apps opened, and as I switch to different groups, all monitors will retain the app position and such.

I guess Stage Manager is more for single screen uses IMO.

  3. I just use separate Desktops and move between them with a three finger swipe left/right. That way I can have snap-to-fit functionality (from Magnet / Better Touch Tools) to make 4 apps fit on the whole screen and still switch between app sets easily.
This stage manager does what I have been doing for years, but worse.

  4. i hate it man it’s trash. i can’t even do anything multi screen unless i force split screen. like i want an app open while i drag & drop files you know. it’s so close to being perfect.

  5. I feel that Misson Control does the same thing but better. Can use keyboard shortcuts and mouse/pad gestures. Stage Manager feels like it's a step backward in how it is implemented. Am I missing something?

  6. OMG you are so right. If you look at this as a way to focus, then it suddenly makes sense. Unless I want say, a calculator hovering over the document I'm working on….then it's a bit weird.

  7. I've been using a Mac since 1985, as well as Windows, and am a software developer. For me, using a 16" MBP and 37" & 34" external monitors, I love stage manager. Effectively it is virtual windows, with application groups. I'm generally using 5 to 10 open applications all day, and hate cluttered desktops. Windows 10 & 11 attempts at virtual desktops is clunky, unfriendly, and not usable in my opinion. The best 3rd party virtual desktop in the past 20 years by a mile has been Object Desktop virtual windows in the Windows world, and Stage Manager is a scaled down version of that, and very good first attempt by Apple. Being able to SEE the open apps for me is very useful, and I simply click the virtual group that I want to switch to. I'm sure in time Apple will improve stage manager, and add a lot more customisation… e.g up to 10 virtual group, sizing, better width control, ability to move apps between app groups without bringing the group to the foreground. I'm sure Apple knows it can take it a lot further, but I think people like the presenter are fairly set in their ways. I'd say it is better when using an external monitor where screen real estate is not an issue. I have 64gb of ram, so keeping many applications open is not a problem.

  8. I actually use the stage manager feature along with multiple desktops… I hated it the first few times I tried it but once I understood the idea behind it, I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. Feels like having multiple workbenches in my garage with each bench having multiple drawers. Really, I love this stage manager.

  9. As I am pretty used to decluttering the desktop by using the multiple desktops feature (called spaces on mac I guess), I wonder why they created another approach to do the same kind of things… Feels a bit redundant, doesn’t it ?

  10. I am confused between buying samsung Galaxy buds 2 pro and its price (210), and buying Airpods 3 and its price (263)
Or Sony link buds S (250)
    Soundcore liberty 3 pro (169)
Or Headphone such as soundcore Q30 (121)
I'll use it for listening to music and watching videos mostly
I want a warmer sound and
I need the best sound quality
I won’t use ANC more or less I will use it only when I am in the car or in the mall
not traveling or something like that
    Are there any other options??
    Please give me an answer

  11. A shortcut for opening an app in the same space, as well as per-desktop stage manager on/off are great suggestions! With those additions, stage manager would fit into my workflow nicely. Also, your take that stage manager is for single-task focus as opposed to multitasking is interesting. I can see that being the case. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, just a different approach. Great video!

  12. Ok looks like im first here! I discovered you channel by accident in the summer because one of your videos was recommended to me. I'm not a tech savvy and I've been watching your videos mostly because i really like your voice. 😅
