Research and research agency Strategy Analytics released the latest 5G mobile phone report for the first quarter of 2021. Global shipments increased by 6% in a single quarter to 136 million units. Demand is still strong. It is estimated that there will be 624 million units in the whole year. Looking closely at the brands, the Apple iPhone is the strongest.
Apple currently only supports the iPhone 12 series to support 5G networks, and it was not officially launched until October last year. In the first quarter of 2021, the shipment volume reached 40.4 million units, accounting for 29.8% of the market, which is almost double the second-place Oppo. (21.5 million/15.8%). Comparing with the grand sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 last year, when it reached 52.2 million and more than 40% of its shipments, Apple had a certain degree of decline.

The subsequent rankings are vivo (19.4 million/14.3%), Samsung (17 million/12.5%), and Xiaomi (16.6 million/12.2%). In the Android camp, as 5G is gradually decentralized to the “10,000 yuan model” and no longer limited to flagship exclusives, brands other than Apple have seen significant growth in number and market share. Samsung’s shipments have increased by 79% and are the brightest eye.
According to Woody Oh, Director of Strategy Analytics, although Samsung’s 5G mobile phones are growing rapidly, their market share in the Chinese market is low, which will affect the future development space. On the other hand, flagship models promoted by Chinese brands are not favored in the North American market, which may drag down the brand’s own revenue and profit margins.
