Elon Musk delivered a talk at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Tuesday. We learned A LOT about Starlink!
Elon describes Starlink as a nice complement to fiber and 5G.
He says to date they have launched over 1,500 active starlink satellites.
Those satellites have a combined power of over 5 megawatts. They are also capable of outputting 30 terabits per second.
But let’s get to the GOOD stuff.
First off, the price of the Starlink user terminal may be halved. Which is crazy to think about, because at the moment, it costs more than 1,000 to produce each user terminal.
However, Musk says they are working to reduce the cost of the Starlink phased array antenna from 500 dollars to about 250 dollars.
He says while this next generation of user terminals will be cheaper, they will be just as capable.
Musk also hinted at a MAJOR partnership with two big name telecom operators, but didn’t disclose which ones they are.
I suppose we will just have to wait and see!
