Google recently released a second generation Nexus 7, and in my opinion, it’s a pretty powerful tablet. For only $229, you’ll get twice the power of an iPad mini, but it that worth losing Apple’s thriving ecosystem?

Today, we’re taking a closer look at what each tablet offers from a hardware standpoint. No, we’re not going to compare processors, but we’ll inspect the overall design, features, and go over some specifications. Obviously the iPad mini hasn’t been updated in almost a year, but I think it’s completely fair to compare the two flagship miniature tablets from both Apple and Google.

As I mentioned earlier, Google’s new Nexus 7 seems like a far better deal in terms of what you get for the price, but will Apple regain its ground on the mini tablet market with an iPad mini 2? It’s very likely that the second generation iPad mini will sport a Retina display, but will that be enough to keep a hold on the market?

With tablet technology becoming cheaper each year, Apple really needs to step up its game in order to compete in the long run. Of course, Apple is ahead when it comes to iTunes and the App Store, but does that really matter to you? Are you buying Apple products for the premium look and feel, or because of the ecosystem?
