While I didn’t discover this method, I found it very useful and it may be helpful to some over you with a passion for hacking/exploring. It’s pretty interesting and allows you to modify any root files on an A4 device. Unfortunately, this will only work on iPhone 4, but it’s still pretty cool.

For detailed instructions on how this process works, please visit this document or check out my full write up (with pictures) over at AppAdvice. Let me know what you think in the comments.

  1. hello from the last evening of 2020,
i watched this becouse i just want to
change the files to make my old iPhone think i am on a new iOS,
so i can download at least a SINGLE app.

  2. Nice. Works for iPhone 4 runing iOS 6.1.3. Good show!

SSH_RD_4rev4b MUST BE OPEN AT ALL TIME to the end!!! I used both CyberDuck and WinSCP for Windows. TinyUmbrella would not start or run, for me anyway, so I used iREB-r4 (iPhone 2G to 4G, iPod Touch 1 to 4) to get out of recovery mode. Search for plist binary editor…

  3. Didn't work for me. I got as far as the push this button, wait, black screen, press home, release that button, wait… there's the apple, jumble of instructions. Neither Tinyumbrella or ramdrive access worked. Had to use Dr. Fone to get out of recovery mode. My search continues.
