Why I CAN’T Recommend Intel ARC A750 8GB and A770 16GB… (review)

The Intel ARC Drivers are a mess… Though today we test the A750 8GB and ARC A770 16GB at 1080p and 1440p, and although the GPUS are coming in at very good prices, (especially when you look at the hardware you get for the money) they just have too many bugs, which in today we will be outlying what they are.

  1. A770 owner. Replaced an Nvidia 2070 super and couldn't be happier. Now to be fair I've seen a fps decrease in most games but what this card lacks in game performance it makes up for ten fold with encoding. I went from having to make concessions to quality to stream with the Nvidia decoder. With the Intel card I have been able to raise every setting to maximum quality. Not only does streaming/recording not drop performance as with the Nvidia card I now pick up between 5 and 12 fps when activating the encoder. On the review bench it's easy to make a list. In the real world when you aren't looking to pick it apart it becomes clear these cards are a world apart for any creator trying to get 2 PC performance from a single PC setup.

  2. If intel fixes most or all of the problems with driver problems and memory compression, then the A770 might just be one of the best price to performance cards.

  3. I just bought the ASRock Arc A770 16GB yesterday. With the latest Intel drivers, it ran great at 1440p and 165 Hz. These Arc cards are only going to get better with new driver releases. I think Intel's graphics cards are going to be the big disruptor to the stranglehold Nvidia has on the geek community.

  4. Bro if you had knowledge you would have known Intel is far better than AMD and Nvidia.. they actually know what they are doing unlike casuals like AMD and Nvidia.. They both existing for decades still can't figure out software department

  5. I recently purchased an a750 to have as a back up and was boxing it up for return after about two hours. I wiped drivers with AMD clean up, DDU, then installed the a750….. Bios had video but could not get past the splash screen with picture. It went to black screen. I tried everything I could find in forum posts in bios settings and just black screen. Back it goes. Intel website suggests installing drivers as a fix to no display…….. Fancy trick that be Intel🤣

  6. I have this card for 4 days and it's frustrating ! Driver issues with Warhammer Darktide game freezes when moving , Battlefront 2 keep crashing on 2540x resolution. I am having issues with my CPU atm since it is TT ing let's hope with my new cooler and cooling paste the issues where lying there.

  7. videos like this are a feedback-gold mine for intel, i just hope they watch videos like this and/or read the comments from all of their users..
i personally am still on a team green card from 6-7 years ago, i'd love to buy an intel card at some point once their drivers are a little more matured.

  8. ARC is literally 4 years behind in GPU design. First, the A770 was designed to compete with the 3070, the chip is the same sice (~405mm^2). But it was completed 2 years after the 3070. Not only that, they hit 3060 performance. What is the difference between 3060 an 3070? That's 1 generation of performance, otherwise known as 2 years. 2+2 = 4. Intel is 4 years behind !!

  9. Can we please go back and look at ATI and Nvidia's first year in discrete graphics?
I'd suggest to you both were fraught with issues. I was there for both of those.
While I have not had any real issues with my A770, I don't expect everything in a driver to be done in a year.
Is everything peachy with Intel? No.
The release drivers were terrible and who ever ran that division should have been replaced.
That said…it has come a long way since.
As to the popups.. I use 7-zip to extract the drivers from the .exe, then only load the driver…never the ARC control.
My biggest niggle to date is no capture radio button.
I'm still using OBS for game capture as a result.
The card runs properly in every DX9 and later game I own because I have it properly matched and I have a properly configured BIOS.
Heck! it even does VR well.
Try VR on competing cards in that price range.
    That ought to be interesting.

  10. HDCP is gonna be a dealbreaker. I've never been able to get HDCP to work on any of my displays. I always have to avoid using HDMI altogether if a device needs HDCP to play a disc.
