China: Apple selloff deepens as Huawei shows off new smartphone

Apple (AAPL) shares are undergoing a selloff — shaving off $200 billion of market value in just two days — after the Chinese government restricted officials’ use of iPhones for work and Huawei unveiled its new Mate 60 Pro smartphone. Rhodium Group Director Reva Goujon explains the concerns Huawei’s new advanced chips present to U.S. regulators and how Apple is getting caught in the middle of various export controls. “China has intent to showcase when it has technological breakthroughs,” Goujon says. “There’s some question over to what degree does this actually represent a breakthrough and an ability for heavily-sanctioned Chinese firms like Huawei to circumvent U.S. export controls and sanctions.”

  1. China should ban all Apple products like what US did to Huawei products accusing Huawei provides back door service but can't prove its existence until today. China is in the risk of internal security breach if keep using US products and services. China, it is time for you to take immediate action before it is too late.

  2. Apple has nothing new for quite a few years. This new Huawei phone is a wake up call.
I particularly like the satellite call capability. Made a call on the plane once, and there was the huge antenna that can fold into the back of the phone. Didn’t understand how Huawei can make it work without the antenna.

  3. since Apple iPhone could be tracked and even use in espionage so total ban of iPhone for govt as well as state owned enterprises like bankers, news media, military personnel… outright ban and then if anyone found using will be jailed…then sit back and watch where Apple heads…of course this could disband Foxconn factory in China and shift to India who welcomes with the cow parading on the street…

  4. Once the dust settles, Huawei will give consumers more affordable 5 chicken (5G) phones and dominate the industry. Unfairly restrained, it is still kick ass. Imagine Huawei fighting freely using all its mighty engineering and financial assets. The easy days that Apple and Samsung have enjoyed are over. A real champion is in town. Let the real competition begin!

  5. Chinese retaliation is mild, compared to US lawmakers….
This is because Chinese govt is worried Biden will get a heart attack if they ban iPhone for public use as well

  6. Apple will be getting more expensive with supply chain disrupted and source of materials getting more expensive, alternative competition Huawei now rising to challenge this supply chain

  7. I want to point out another leading technology that most ppl hasn't noticed: Huawei Nearlink. It was developed since Huawei been excluded from WIFI and Bluetooth international alliance. It has advantages of 60% lower power consumption, 6 times higher speed, 1/30 delay(microseconds VS milliseconds), and over 100 times higher number of network connections(WIFI7:256 Nearlink:4096).

The Nearlink combined WIFI and Bluetooth into a unified protocol while gone far ahead of both. Makes it the most ideal protocol for IOT.

  8. The only phones That US unable to eavesdrop are Huawei phones. Now they are making quantum phone with 6G tech, the new phones are using the next generation Wifi/bluetooth combined tech called Nearlink or Starflash which is nearly 100x faster than the current tech. Time to dump all those related shares.

  9. Joe Biden is using sanctions to try to extort from Chinese companies with Hunter the designated fee collector. Other US politicians are joining them trying to suppress none Caucasian companies.
