The #nvidia keynote at Computex in Taipei took the cloud and hyperscale computing world by storm. #amd quickly responded with their own datacenter & AI technology keynote. But it’s clear they missed the mark, which means Nvidia could be on the way to having a real monopoly on the chips that power generative AI technologies like #chatgpt by #openai , Microsoft’s Azure, Google Cloud, and even Amazon’s Web Services. Even though Nvidia stock ( NVDA stock ) is richly valued, it could still be one of the best stocks to buy now.

  1. The general consensus on what nGreedia is after, is that they want to become "the Apple of AI", much in the same way as real Apple themselves have their constant share of consumer market. This may be achievable. But there are also multiple examples of epic fails and slip-ups in the history, e.g. 3dfx, who were the GPU at the time, but slipped so hard they got gobbled up by nV; IBM were once the PC to have, but now they're nowhere near consumer electronics. Some people also like to compare AI and cryptocurrencies hype, but AI has practical workload implications outside just abstract "value generation". But here also lies the caveat, namely "market saturation". AI is just barely out of infancy and grows rapidly, but this is not an infinite loop.

  2. Have to ask yourself, how many companies will actually need or benefit from AI? And would they know how to take advantage of it? There’s going to be specialized companies that can pitch their AI software to businesses, but it’s going to be a tough sale at first. I see a lot of future growth, but AI is way overhyped right now. Also, what businesses will actually require that kind of performance. With intel and AMD integrating AI into their chips, it’s going to affect nvidia’s future sales. I do agree that nVidia has a monopoly for the latest and greatest in the dstacenters. Intel could also be a potential supplier of those chips in the future. Intel is not trying to compete, they want to partner and help supply there manufacturing needs.

  3. The problem with AMD's recent AI presentation is that I don't really feel like any of this is going to make them competitive with NVIDIA in the AI space. It's not so much the hardware that's the issue, but the lack of investment on the software side from AMD. NVIDIA has heavily invested in CUDA, making it very powerful, which in turn makes it very useful for AI. NVIDIA also does a whole heap of AI research internally using their own hardware, which leads to further improvement with each generation.

A simple example of this is the move to 4bit inference. As Lisa Su said, their 192GB AMD system allows you to run an 80 billion parameter LLM model (since it would be running at 16bits on AMD hardware). With CUDA it's possible to run these models at 4bits with no perceptible loss in quality (there is a scientifically measurable loss, but you'd never notice it in practice). This allows you to run those models with a quarter of the VRAM. To put it another way, you can already run 33+ billion parameter models on a single RTX 3090, which is a 24GB consumer GPU available for around $700 on the second-hand market. So running an 80 billion parameter model just isn't that impressive anymore.

Hypothetically speaking, if AMD could get 4bit inference working on these systems, it would allow you to run a 300+ billion parameter model with 192GB of VRAM, which would actually be game-changing (as it would mean being able to run models larger than GPT3 on a single AMD system). Unfortunately, they're just throwing VRAM at the problem, rather than making the technological investment needed to make their hardware more useful for AI.

  4. please, no matter what topic you choose to adress in the future don't ever do that popcorn bit again. it was rather hard to watch and quite unpleasent. specially with the deer in headlights stare.

  5. MI300X is untouchable in the near future. Nvidia just can't do anything to AMD on cloud AI at least in the near future.
In AMD announcement there's Pytorch part. That's pretty big thing you have missed since you're not a developer. That's understandable.

  6. Great video! Intel needs to keep focusing on their CPU, SSDs, and Intel NUC hardware. All very good. Their GPU are just too far behind Nvidia & AMD. Even AMD is falling behind Nvidia.

  7. Op made a jokebait. Nvidia can't even make drivers that can support a 1080 forget about a 4080 😂 Nvidia blowing cards lifespans by overpushing power in the card which cannot even give you the stable or near constant FPS. Yet they want to even attempt this

  8. Hi Alex, love your video editing! and I want to start my youtube channel – what software do you use to edit? where do you get your music and images? lastly, how do you create your thumbnails? your advice would be greatly appreciated.

  9. I think you are wrong. AMD offer a product that Nvidia can't match because of the ram size. Run an 80b param model on a single chip and that's a quite new product for AMD. Tesla made their inference chip that was at least competitive but at the time seems like it was even leading. And they had no expertise going in. I think neural compute architectures are so relatively flat that the threshold for entry is modest. That the real advantage is TSMC which Nvdia doesn't control. Indeed, they are second in line after Apple and their M2 pro cold running chip is comparable to nvidia 4070 which is phenomenal. Because they are one generation ahead at TSMC. So nvidia's monopoly is far from given. I think they are mostly riding on brand recognition and product familiarity. There is no mote. Also as the father of deep learning, let me introduce another insight. Neural nets is not the ultimate AI model.

  10. The only thing, Jensen Huang killed lately, is his Presentations. He sounds like Elon on Dope. And the Prices he ask for his hardware clearly make aware, that Nvidia is no longer "From Gamers, FOR Gamers" His Business is servers and AI. Before it was Crypto mining. And i don't care about Stock market Prices. If you make 100% profit per item you sell, Your Stock market value goes up. Nothing in it for the actual gaming customer. And i am pretty certain, A.I will flop as hard as Crypto. Once they realise, it just takes a LOT of energy to do, what a Human does. To a certain extent, even devalues human creativity.

  11. Thank you for this video as well as all previous videos. They are amazing videos and I appreciate the time and effort you put into each video. Consider doing a video on Quantum Computers – I am interested in hearing what you think the future holds for them and which companies will market them first and when.

  12. That’s why the stock is crashing, but when it comes to technology literally tomorrow AMD may present something innovative and reverse the situation.
