  1. 1. The power supply used can make the BIGGEST difference for coil whine results. Platinum rated PSU more likely to have coil whine. Please comment what PSU and rating to help confirm.
    2. Other Things that would change coil whine dual power connections and possibly better built power system on the GPU which may reduce transient spikes.
    3. Big differences in price points might be spelling company greed, Asus isn't being greedy.
    4. There is a physical GPU switch OC mode and regular performance, system needs reboot for effect.

  2. "I have encountered the same card twice, both exhibiting coil whine; however, it is worth noting that this issue is not consistent across all games. I have also attempted to rectify the situation by replacing the power supply unit (PSU), yet the coil whine persists with the Asus Dual OC 4070 graphics card."

  3. I have a Asus Dual 4070 myself and run it on an open test bench and idk if it’s the Corsair PSU I have running it or what but I’ve noticed ZERO coil wine with my card in the 2 months I’ve had it.

  4. I bought my son the Asus 4070 TUF Gaming OC and it’s got super low temps and is whisper quiet. Great card. I nearly bought the Asus DUAL and the coil whine wouldn’t have bothered him as he wears headphones.

  5. Just installed the GPU.

It is very quiet, almost inaudible if you use the quiet BIOS and cut the power limit to 70% or something. The coil whine is present. But my PC is under the table and it's hard to hear it, impossible to hear playing the game.

Temperatures are perfect and never go above 63-65 C° in the games like Cyberpunk on a max settings with DLSS off. I play in Full HD.

I was using two 40 GPUs before. First was Gigabyte RTX 4070 Gaming OC, but I was distracted by a poor gigabyte software and decided to choose RTX 4070 Ti MSI Ventus 3X. This one was perfect, but UNFORTUNATELY, they disabled an opportunity of zero dB mod at idle if I try to customise my own fan curve. Default fan curve was painfully noisy.

At the end, I decided to buy the simplest RTX 4070 in Asus Dual and it was the right decision. It is simple and working. Silent bios is really silent with 1300 RPM at 100% power target and only 1050 at 70% one. Don't know what to add. Perhaps the fact they now owe me 300$ for the difference between RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070 Asus Dual 😂

  6. I bought this card…
After more research I decided it SHOULD be a good card. I bought it and have ZERO issues. I leave the fan switch to "Silent Mode" and haven't heard coil whine yet. My performance is barely below maximum (Silent Mode has the Power Draw at 90% by default but it doesn't drop the FPS by more than a few percent). Also, I cap the FPS below the average it can hit because NOISE matters most to me and my PC is pretty much SILENT most of the time. There's a HUGE difference in fan noise by capping a card to 80FPS if it's averaging 90FPS uncapped. (BTW, I have a global FPS cap set to 250FPS in NVidia Control Panel to avoid those high-FPS loading screens you get in games that are highly prone to coil whine. But again, no whine that I can hear at any time.) Anyway, I started God of War which can hit 120FPS average but I had capped to 60FPS because my room right now gets HOT. The GPU fans were not even spinning at first.

  7. Gainward phoenix 4070 should be coil whine free. Had this card, not even a slightest squeak. The cooling system is very quiet aswell, making is super low-noise GPU

  8. Sooo I have a Corsair 850w power supply, and while I have heard that corsair PSU's cause the whine I'm hesistant to believe that is my problem, I have run a gtx 970, 3060ti, and 3090 all on this same psu with no coil whine….two of those cards have a higher power draw than the 4070 so I really don't think it's the power supply.

  9. COIL WHINE need not happen… Manufacturers could easily fix this issue. I can only assume it's to save money but how much do they really save? Every component has issues if you push it to its limit. There's a SPECIFICATION sheet that lays out all the parameters. I'm so sick of this nonsense to the point I'm not even upgrading. My GTX1080 rig runs the games I play quite well. I have better things to do with my money then spend $800 (CDN) for an RTX4070 only to end up annoyed by coil whine… and it would piss me off to no end. ANY noise to me is annoying.

  10. COIL WHINE video issue…
    1) He has the POWER TARGET set to 50% in the coil whine settings. You can change that. Perhaps try 90%. Or try to UNDERVOLT. Or both.
    2) I modded my EVGA GTX1080 and that made my coil whine much WORSE. Doing so for an Asus RTX4070 may or may not make a difference to coil whine. BUT… I fixed my coil whine by moving the 2nd fan (not sitting directly over the GPU processor) connector to the MOTHERBOARD and then I used "FANCONTROL" software to control that Noctua fan based on the GPU (not CPU) temperature. My Noctua fans are pretty much silent when gaming with a carefully tweaked fan profile (I ramp up LATE so the fans still only spin at 40% max at 76degC, and then I ramp up sharply after that to address any worst-case… STOP running GPU fans higher than needed simply to keep GPU temps low. That helps performance by maybe 2% max or whatever and won't prolong the life of the card. If you're running at 1500RPM to hit 65degC then go educate yourself. Get it to something like 800RPM at 80degC or whatever is optimal for your GPU max temp)

  11. So, just a remark. If you're doing a noise test (coil whine). People are going to up the volume. To then straight cut back to the mic is a bit of a bad idea.
Maybe give people time to lower the volume again with some annotations…

  12. I know that it's a poor comparison but for some reason the packaging reminds me of opening a carton of eggs. Serves the purpose nothing fancy at all

  13. I recently got one of these and ended up returning it because one of the fans had a wobble to it when it was spinning.

I haven't seen that on cards I've had in the past and was wondering if you were seeing something similar (just in case I end up ordering the same card as a replacement).

  14. thats actually crazy because I had the 6750xt dual oc from asus a while back and it had the EXACT same coil whine issue. its funny seeing it pop up again on another asus oc card (maybe dual fan design is an issue too)

interestingly rnough when i went to return it the store rep said a bunch of people complained about the same thing and saw it on reddit as well (amd platform users also would have the gpu crash in games myself included).

long comment but i hope it helps someone out knowing that the coil whine may be a dual oc asus card pattern.

  15. I'm also planning building new gaming PC with efficiency in mind that's why I like 4070.. What is the good CPU that is also power efficient with good thermals but wont bottleneck 4070? I like 5600 but I heard it bottlenecks the 4070 so I might settle on 7600 but it draws way lot power than 5600. My budget is only around those CPU range.

  16. Really great review, especially the coil whine part is essential.
Have the same card and the coil whine is just such a deal breaker that I will have to return it because it drives me nuts while playing pretty much any AAA title.
I wonder if there is even a single 4070 without coil whine. I wanna try out the Gigabyte Windforce OC and the founders edition if they are better or worse and if maybe another PSU might help.
