Today I want to show you how to replicate a similar version of this without having to update to Android 14.

I’ll be using an application called aodNotify to demonstrate this, which can be found in the Google Play Store. It’s free to download and you’ll be given access to its basic features without having to unlock it with an in-app purchase.

The app is from a developer named Jawomo and I’ll include a link to the apps in the video description below. I say apps, because this developer has released a specific version of aodNotify depending on which OEM makes your smartphone. For example, if you have device from Samsung then you’ll want to download that version of the aodNotify app.

If you have a device from OnePlus or Google, then you’ll find a specific version for them in the Google Play Store as well. If your OEM isn’t listed there, then it’s recommended to install the catch-all version that should work for most other versions of Android.

If available, it’s recommended that you install the version of aodNotify that matches your OEM to ensure the best compatibility possible.

After it has been installed, you’ll be greeted with this setup page where you need to grant the proper permissions that allow aodNotify to work on your device. These steps may differ from version to version, but overall you should need to go through most of the steps shown here.

With all of that done, we can then begin to customize how aodNotify works on your device. First, I recommend going into the Notification Light section and configure these options.

We can change the style to have the application light up the edge of your hole-punch camera here at the top.
Or we can set it up so that it will create a full-screen outline of your display when you receive a notification.
We can even make it so that only a certain side of the screen is illuminated if we wanted to.
There is an LED Dot option here as well, but this requires you to unlock the feature via an in-app purchase.
You’ll see there’s also two sections here. So we can configure these options for when the display is off and when the display is on.

Going back, we have the option to change the flashing effect that we see.
By default, this will be set to pulse, but in the free version we can change this to rotate or to a gravity effect.
there are many more effects here but most of them need to be unlocked first.

Don’t forget to scroll all the way to the bottom though, as there is a slider which will let you adjust the speed of the effect

Lastly, we can configure the dimensions of the lighting effect here.
By adjusting the thickness, resizing it, and changing the edge rounding to your preference.

We can also configure which apps will activate this type of screen flash notification here. Which offers more customization that the feature we’ll be seeing with the release of Android 14.

And not only can we set this up to alert you of notifications from apps themselves, but you can also set up battery alerts for when the phone is charging, when the battery is fully charged, and when it is below 15%.

We can choose to have the app ignore notifications when the phone is unlocked. In case you don’t want to see these screen flashing effects when you’re actively using the phone.
