Why this new Volvo will kill the Tesla Model Y!

This is the Volvo EX30, and it’s an absolute game-changer!

Now we know what you’re thinking – it’s just another crossover electric SUV! And yes, it might be, but we think it might have changed the performance SUV game forever!

But why, we hear you ask? Well the EX30 may be small, but it can pack a serious punch!

When it comes to performance, there are a few options to choose from. You can select a single-motor edition that can produce 272hp, but it’s the dual-motor edition that we’re interested in, which can put down an awesome 428hp and 543Nm of torque! This makes it one of the most powerful Volvos ever produced!

These stats make the EX30 more powerful than an Audi RSQ3, an AMG GLA 45, and a Tesla Model Y Performance. But that’s not all – the EX30 is so much cheaper than its competitors, with the dual motor edition costing just £41,000! In comparison, an RSQ3 will cost you around £55,000, and the Model Y Performance will set you back around £60,000!

So what do you think? Could this small crossover SUV tempt you to turn to electric? Or would you still choose a petrol-powered German SUV? Let us know in the comments!

  1. What's the fascination with having a "Tesla Killer"?? The Model Y is the best selling vehicle in the world and has a steady ramped production. Volvo won't be able to touch Tesla's production rate, and I doubt they're making a profit on these yet. Scaling will be difficult and expensive. We need a lot more viable EV options in the world so instead of being promoted as a "Tesla Killer", just promote these as an alternative. The roads would be a very boring place if every vehicle was from the same manufacturer.

  2. This EX30 makes the Tesla look so dated, and that's even before you get to the cost of buying it ! This looks so snappy and fun, not a fan of having no cluster in front of the driver, but hey, I'm sure I would get over that pretty soon once I recovered from the G-forces created under acceleration !

  3. Did they just slap Matt Watson's AI voice over some footage. Well, guess what. Yep, it's not the same. Couldn't watch longer than 2.minutes. Sorry.

  4. Volvo geared it down so it has better performance low down, but crap top speed. Not surprisingly, lots of people are being suckered into it.

Geely, SAIC and BYD are all performing the same cheap tricks and are not in the same class as Tesla. Tesla are still years ahead but punters in the UK aren’t very savvy so this’ll sell plenty.

  5. Every new car is supposed to be the new tesla killer, wont happen.

Seems like a great car however you cant forget that it looses in:

    Range
    Speed
    Size
    Price

Ive had my model y now for 6 months and I cant say anything other than its the best value new car you can buy now. Never been a tesla fanboy, but damn. The car is great. The interior size is similar to full size SUV’s and the boot size is the size of big estate cars.

The performance is of cars with 100+ more HP. (Fathers Taycan with 470hp lost to my model y long range).

The EX30 seems like a great value but however if you specc it similar to any tesla model y it becomes more expensive than the Y.

  6. HUGE price DIFFERENCE!!!

What a price difference, exact same model with same specs is EUR 5.695 cheaper in Germany than in Cyprus. How can this be explained? Other well known car companies have a price difference of EUR 1.000 which can be explained from the extra shipping cost.

I love the car but such a high price difference makes you wonder if the car is worth it and somebody else is ….

  7. Didn't watch yet, but the title is really silly: These cars are in the totally different segments. EX30 will compete with the upcoming $25k Tesla.
