2017 Tesla Model X 90D Full Review and Tour! Is a old Tesla worth it still?

Haven driven the newer Tesla products, it sure is interesting to look back to the beginning of the Model X and how it has evolved over time. This example, a 2017 Model X 90D with 60k miles and a white interior, appears to be holding up well.

1st point: Exterior build quality? Actually fine, other than a crumbling door seal. Interior quality? Oh boy. The old Mercedes sourced switchgear aside, the center console felt like it was built in a toy factory, plastics were smudged and scratched, and while quiet on the road, it felt a bit unfinished inside. Remember, this was 2017.

2: The white seats appear to be solid, save for a car seat mark in the second row. Some of the microsuede on the dash is smudged and matted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec Sheet: The Model X 90D originally was rated at 257 miles of charge with around 85kWh useable. In 2023, a full battery displayed 237miles of range after 60,537 miles on the clock. It made 417HP as well. 🏁

3: The ride and handling was rather good. The air suspension worked well for its age and the visibility in the Model X always has been a major advantage.

Final thoughts: Well… yes, I can firmly now say that new Tesla’s have come a LONG way in build quality but it’s impressive how this 2017 Model X still can turn heads 5 years later and looks modern doing so! Values are all over this place from $47k-over $50k. This one is for sale now at $50k @volvocarswhiteplains @theloftwhiteplains.

  1. I have a 2017 90D also. That black scratched area on my car has a wood grain appearance with no scratches showing. It also has black leather seats with wood grain dash. Both are in excellent condition. I, too, love the large wind shield!! My car has over 110,000 miles. The battery when new had a range of 257 miles. My battery pack now show 244 when full. I’ve needed to replace half shafts to eliminate shudder under full acceleration from a stop. I’ve also needed to get new steering arm linkage (it was squeaking). I very recently took it in to get the brakes cleaned. (They had never been looked at.) Front brake pads were quite seized up from years of driving … esp from salt on roads. I needed to get new front rotors and pads. Rear brakes were still fine. The car accelerates, brakes and functions as new. As it is updated with latest screen, computer software and cameras, it’s pretty much on par with current models. Biggest differences now are better battery charging speeds and more efficient motors, hence much greater range and somewhat quicker acceleration for newer models.
I kinda wish you could have reviewed my car instead of the one you had though you did cover a lot of good info. Thanks! ☺️

  2. Great to see how well these older Model Xs are holding up. Thanks for the detailed review! 🙏🏻
Just one note: at 11:49 you mention no power outlets in the 3rd row, but aren't they just below the cup holders?

  3. probably logic but does these suv-teslas get higher than model s when going over speedbumps and on/off ferries? had problems with 2014 model s with scratching going over speedbumps and ferries. Can you lock the ride-height on this/these x and y cars?
