Alright everybody, this is the end of this journey for now.
In summary today Apple released iOS 17.0.3 and Instagram released 303.3. I believe while iOS 17.0.3 may fixed general heat issues, the main problem caused by Instagram, is fixed by the new Instagram app.
So regardless of what iOS / iPadOS you’re on, if you use Instagram, update this app to (as of today) 303.3.
And yeah. To everyone who said it was iOS not the app, watch this hard proof :))

Here is my summary of iPhone Overheating saga.
Some time ago, Instagram updated their app and it began causing issues. This probably began around when Instagram version 300 was released. Not ALL but for SOME users (including me) this app began consuming 1% battery per minute, while heating up the phone up to 114ยฐF. This kind of heat and battery drain not only caused the phone to slow down, it also caused irreversible battery degradation. In my case, my battery health went down %2 in just couple of days. This overheating affected, all iPhones and iPads that I have. Meaning all of my iPhone 15s, 14s, 13s, 12 and my 3 iPads.
But since this happened right when iPhone 15 was released many assumed this was an iPhone 15 problem. However Iโve been trying to tell everyone that this is not an iPhone 15 issue, it is an issue Instagram app. Because while I was preparing for my review, I did many many tests to force iPhone 15 and it didnโt overheat at all.
My tests show even if you're on iOS 16, Instagram caused overheating.
https://youtu.be/p6xf09S8k-4 <- Check out this unlisted video.
Today (October 4th) Instagram released an update, Instagram version 303.3 which fixes the overheating issue. But also today Apple released iOS 17.0.3 and they say it takes care of the overheating issues. Since I never experienced any overheating other than Instagram app, I donโt know what iOS 17.0.3 did except for patching some security flaws.ย
My tests shows that as long as you update your Instagram to 303.3 and above (imagining they'll not ruin it again) no matter that iOS, iPhone or iPad you have the problem should go away.

TL;DR
Your iPhone is fine, update your Instagram app to the version released today.
I'm glad this is over.
It behave exactly same on Xperia 5 march III are get heat up for no reason and shut it down stop heat so are Not my phone wrong ๐
Migros app is also causing extreme overheating. 5 minutes in Migros Yemek section drained 5% battery on my 15 pro. So, no Apple probably did not fix anything.

it came down the same reason. Even though my iphone 13 being overheated after using Instagram. Iโm getting disappointed with managing this situation in Apple.
Where are you iPhonedo? more than a month and no detailed video????? ๐

My friends iPhone 15pro and mine 15 pro max poor battery life. Please make a video on it
Good work!!
i just watched your iphone 5 video lol
it's so much nostalgia
You've earned a subscriber on YT and Instagram ๐๐ป good job on the videos. Appreciate it
I am waiting for a your honest video on iPhone 15 pro poor battery life
My iphone 15 isnt overheating when charging nor has it ever overheated. I have noticed that when i use third party apps it gets pretty warm. I do use instagram and it does get warm not burning but warm. I was on the phone with apple support and they ran diagnostics and said everything was good. Anybody having the same experience?
Man, so much gratitude to you for this. I was borderline going mad from all the bad rap iphone 15 pro that I ordered a week ago was getting and I was starting to question my decision but thanks you to. Feeling real peace at the moment.
3.0.4 is draining the battery again…
Faruk abim, did you not encounter with the phone overheating while charging? Mine gets very hot while charging with the original cable and the 20W adapter, even after the 17.0.3 update.
it's a new iPhone feature thou : it's called iPhone Tepanyaki – you can cook eggs while charging… hahaha
Blame it on the apps lol…
Bro your tester isn't touching the phone I mean the colour is going outside the phone
Thank you I've been with you since the beginning.
I found out that if you just turn off notifications on IG the problem is solved.
It's constantly updating causing the phone to overheat in my experience.
Nah the instagram issue uncoveres wh…
Shhhh
iphone 15 pro here and the problem remains. I was on a videocall for 3mins and my phone was overheating. fml
I have seen rogue apps cause issue before. I have mentioned multiple time over the years and reviewers wouldn't acknowledge it. They would go with the narrative that was being pushed by most.
Hi, I've been having an overheating problem on the 14 pro for about 3 weeks while it's charging. It reaches such a high temperature that it interrupts charging and then resumes it after a short time. I thought it was a battery problem, so I took it to an Apple service center where they changed it. However, the problem has not been solved, on the contrary. Some people tell me that it's normal, although in my opinion it's not, because if charging stops it means there's something abnormal. Do you think it could be a processor-related problem or something else? Could anyone who has a similar problem and maybe solved it help me?
Its nice to see someone actually turning their brain on and gathering data instead of just crying "Its overheating, wait till next year."
Riiiight. So my phone was not overheating with 17.0.2. Now with 17.0.3โฆ.. It overheats. Instantley
Do you really need to do a 10 minutes video to show that?
44c when phones not in use just on charger. 17.0.3 fixed nothing.
Wait so Apple lied about fixing the issue with update ?
when you hold your temp gauge isnt the green light supposed to fall onto the back of the phone instead of your desk?
I donโt think it was just Instagram, cause others who donโt even have Instagram reported it too
This is how to do it ! thank you very much !
Make this video viral
Great video friendo very informative ๐
Is this realistic, asking apple to throttle apps while the EU demands apple to open up the app store to all kind of developers? I think if anything this problem will only get worse with the EU meddling with Tech companies
Apple should have showed the update in app-store only when the app version passes the performance test. There are many applications like this and it should OS that prevent us to install the applications with vulnerabilities..
I donโt have instagram or uber app and Iโve update the phone. i dont have overheating issues until i connect the phone to the charger then the phone get hot to the touch the phone has insurance but If replace it and then it happens again I donโt know what to do ๐ค need some help or advice here please!
As I haven' t recieved my 15 pro max yet and do not use Instagram that much, I will most likely never have experienced any overheating issues with my phone when getting it. I am however really looking forward to receiving it.
Great work! As always!
Thanks a lot for the materials and your investigation. But still I see the flaw on the hardware side.
I mean, the iPhone 14/14 pro and the earlier ones were not overheating, right? So this problem is not solely related to a certain app, but also to the inner construction or parts inside the new iPhone, maybe it's the A17 Pro or the Titanium or something else.
It would be good to check the previous iPhone generations with not updated instagram and see how they heat up. If you could do it, me personally, would be very grateful.
But anyway, thanks for investigating this and sharing with people! Confetti!
