Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Charging Mystery SOLVED!

#S22Ultra #S22Ultra45WCharging

Charge tests are usually built in to my review videos. The Samsung Galaxy S22 supports 25W charging, and the S22+ and S22 Ultra support 45W charging. Neither of those are bundled with a charger so I thought I’d dig a little deeper and answer questions surrounding the S22 Series’ fast charging capabilities.

  1. This video has nothing to do with Charging Mystery or any solving. This is a battery charging testing comparisons plus an advertising for a 3rd party charger. 12.5 minutes of wasted time.

  2. Wait. Has anyone ever clocked these Samsungs taking 45W at a time? Ever (outside of a lab…) Because if not, if they don't ever do that how is that not a fraud?

  3. Although sponsor come into the video, but you really made a very detail charging review video for s22 ultra. Thumbs up!
(More specifically, samsung need charger support PD PPS 3.3V~11V 5A, most important is the 5A PPS, generally other Charger support 3A PPS only)

  4. 10:52 Apple 96W is actually slower than both 25W and 45W power adapters from Samsung. Reason is that Samsungs uses PPS protocol for fastest charging and Apple power supplies do not support it, so you will end up with 15W charging speed. While i gets job done in ~ 1,5 hours, it is still not its maximum. For instance your Baseus has PPS support so it worked as 45W Samsung adapter. Reason for using PPS is to bypass phone's built in charging circuit and directly feed battery from power supply to reduce waste heat in phone damaging battery health in long term. For that you need however accurate voltage regulation and that does the PPS protocol by being able to go in 0.02V steps. If PPS is not available, Samsung uses 9V and steps it down with in-built charger, but to prevent overheat charging speed as capped at ~ 15W.

This is list of power supplies where 25+ W charging worked on my S21

    – ASUS 30W
    – Xiaomi 65W
    – Anker nano II 65W
    – Satechi 100W

  5. If you test the settings of what's what with charging you will find that fast charging on or off does nothing. Super fast charging only puts charging to fast. Samsung is being crooked and not addressing the issue giving their consumers the impression that there are 3 charging options when there are not.

  6. Some additional Info people should know.

15W Charger USB A to USB C: You are just Charging

25W USB A to USB C: You are Fast Charging

25W Charger USB C to USB C: You are Super-fast Charging

45W Charger USB C to USB C: You are getting Super-Fast Charging 2.0. Which is the fastest, but need to be using a 5a Cable

  7. My issie with the s22 ultra. Ive owned it for a week now and already have charging problems. It will only charge to 85% and then a msg pops up and says charging is paused. Why???? What can i do to resolve this?

  8. Absolutely love how straightforward and informative this video was! Glad it came up in my search….as I'm researching switching S22 Ultra from a Note10. I have a lot to learn.

  9. Many s22 ultras are having issues charging! If you let them die completely – frequently when you plug it in to charge you will get a grey circle with a lightening bolt. It's hard to get it to charge once it is like that and if you do get it to charge..it's random. Can you do a video on why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks!

  10. Would anyone know why my Cygnett chargeup reserve (2nd gen) will only cable charge my S22 Ultra. I know it will never super fast charge but it used to at least fast charge my note 9. It will start fast charging and then turn off. Anyone had a similar issue?

  11. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The whole testing was flawed because (no one reads and Samsung buries the info in the fine print(!) But Samsung notes that to charge at the very highest rate (45W) a compatible device must be set (buried in the settings) to accept ultra fast charging, PLUS it must use no less than a 5A cable (this would = the 5A Samsung Dex USB-C to C (PD 2.0 USB-C 100W capable) cable or a higher grade, USB 3.2 gen 2 cable which takes 5A but also provides vastly faster data speeds if needed. The crap cable in the box was what has been causing this corporate debacle. I know you said it didn't make a difference but that sounded like an afterthought. If the tests were re run with better, thicker gage cables of the proper type (it is NOT heat in the cables — the higher cables have a chip in them that tells the charger to gi higher. The base model 3 Amp cable does not and is digitally limited to 25W and under. So a 45W PS-PPD Charger with a cheap 3A cable can only charge at 25W if that. This is a confusing mess of Samsung and the USB C implementation Group's own making. Colored plug ends could have helped as could have more explicit instructions from Samsung (but they didn't want you buying any charger other than theirs so make it look like others won't work by obfuscating the info…. And retailers like BB don't help either. They omit Amps from their base cables data….
