It is rumored that Apple plans to update its top-end Mac computer lineup this year and will bring the most powerful M3 Ultra chip, which will be used in Mac Studio and Mac Pro models and is expected to be equipped with up to 80 GPU cores.
According to the latest news from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is expected to launch a fourth variant of the M3 chip this year, which will combine the performance of two M3 Max chips. If it follows the existing naming strategy of Apple chips, it may refer to M3 Ultra. It is estimated that the number of CPU cores will reach 32 and the number of GPU cores will reach 80. Mac Studio will be the first computer models equipped with this chip, and the larger Mac Pro may also join the lineup.
Research agency TrendForce also made the same statement, predicting that Apple will reveal the M3 Ultra at WWDC in June, the same time as last year when it released the M2 Max and M2 Ultra.
However, Mac Studio and Mac Pro may be Apple’s biggest focus in 2024. “Bloomberg” believes that even if the subsequent M3 version of MacBook Air is expected to become a best-selling model, overall, Apple’s plans for Mac this year still lack bright spots.
