  1. there is more to a package than just the container/extension. some deb files install the files in places like /opt and though i dont have any examples off the top of my head distros do have different directories.

  2. When talking about wine wayland support, it should be made clear that it is not ready yet, and at least with testing i did so far, games are still unplayable, it seems that mouse input is still not fully implemented.

  3. Thank you Nick. I always watch the news video of linux. I'm from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
In Bangladesh there is not many Linux YouTuber but I hope there will be in future. Thank you for contributing to Linux in the world and, thank you from me to give us the recent and actual knowledge of the news thank you again ❤❤❤

  4. Linux does need to buckle down on having some fucking standards for their app stores. Most app descriptions are "front end for" some package I don't understand what it does. If it's not that, its super lazy drivel like, "a to do list for Linux."… So… No noteworthy features you wanna highlight? Nope. And most music players just say "a music player." You wanna… Maybe say if you have an EQ? support for network libraries? Folder organization? Linux app descriptions are trash.

  5. that sucks about fuschia. i was really lookin forward to it but siiiiiiiigh. come on google. you used to give us good stuff. now all they do is take. gmail started off great but now it just sucks all my bill info to advertisers. chrome? saaame. i miss the "don't be evil" days. i mean we still get some solid open source from em. but. ehhh. step up like you used ta… it's not like ya don't get enough money from us.

  6. Holy carp Batman, that appimage hub looks horrid! Just clicked on latest and all icons are cut off top and bottom. The Blender app uses the official logo including text, so the aspect ratio is all wrong. Most of the icons look like they were made in 5 minutes by someone's nephew. Appimage really is the Video 2000 of app packaging formats.

  7. It seems the top Google execs are anti-Christian and have implemented an algorithm on their search engine that deprecates searches for church websites that have been very popular. My own church has noticed that Google has done this to hide or make it hard to find our church's resources on the internet. We were in the top 15 most searched for resources prior to a few years ago but now we seem to be hard to get to using Google. They do similar things on YouTube, making it almost impossible to post a link to videos on intelligent design in their Comments section. Shame on you Google and your tops executives! 🤨

  8. i'm gonna disagree on "don't use downstream packages". the libreoffice flatpak uses gtk while opensuse has both a qt5 and gtk rpm available and i prefer the qt version. flatpak is also pretty gui-oriented which is annoying for cli-heavy people like me. again with libreoffice, i can convert my odt to pdf by using "lowriter –convert-to pdf file.odt" but i have no idea how that would work with the flatpak, if it's even possible. and as someone who prefers cli i don't exactly enjoy spending half a minute using a gui for something i could do in 5 seconds through a cli. don't get me wrong, i don't hate flatpaks, they're just… not great for cli things. unless, of course, flatpak allows adding stuff to $PATH and the libreoffice devs just decided not to do that. and i haven't exactly done a lot of research on this so i could be completely wrong.

  9. It's for sure nice to have the option to decouple the various Google Apps from each other, but the main question again is: How many people would really bother to do this?

  10. 4:43 For me it looks like the German word "fuchsiarot", which is pronounced roughly as "fooxiah-roht". It's the term for a kind of red which is often seen on plants of the fuchsia genus.
So I wouldn't pronounce the word like "future".

  11. I use the flatpak version of Steam on MX Linux KDE on my desktop, and the flatpak of the Steam Link app on my Laptop, which also runs MX Linux KDE, but only has an Intel N4020 and 4 GB of RAM.

  12. Thanks for news about the German research on search engines. It is my impression since quite some time that any of the engines is almost counterproductive when looking for product reviews
