Why are some melting? RTX 4090 600W 12VHPWR Adapter Teardown

UPDATE: In light of the excellent investigative video posted by Steve / GamersNexus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIKjZ1djp8c), it would appear that this problem is still unresolved and there’s more to it than the 14AWG wire solder points in the plug. Steve is asking for more people with these adapters to get in touch with him, and of course NVIDIA is investigating although they haven’t made any statements beyond that. Locating more adapters with the 150V rated wires that IgorsLab saw (mine used 300V wires which can be seen at 8m26s) would definitely help. Most are still leaning towards this being a manufacturing issue with the adapters, but what specifically the defect is remains to be seen.

UPDATE: In light of the excellent investigative video posted by Steve / GamersNexus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIKjZ1djp8c), it would appear that this problem is still unresolved and there's more to it than the 14AWG wire solder points in the plug. Steve is asking for more people with these adapters to get in touch with him, and of course NVIDIA is investigating although they haven't made any statements beyond that. Did this ever get resolved
Why is my 4090 not melting ? Corsair cable and corsair PSU and Strix 4090
That gigabyte's a big boi
Igor's adaptor has wires that are rated for 150V your adaptor is rated for 300V so your adaptor has more robust wires and soldering points where his is not as good.
It does count up for me how can u call it high power connector wel the power goes 4/6+ wire and 4/6- wires against 3x 8 pin connectors so u have 12+ wires and 12- wires I mean a wire is a wire and copper is copper more copper wires is more power and wattage 🤷🏽♂️
Just upgrade you psu! That’s the best bet! Adapters are always iffy
Cable bending near connector is dangerous ?
lol nvidia should provide these for free for those who have 4080 and 4090. they can afford it 😛
weren't there also articles reporting of overheating issues with the 3080, 3090 series gpus with loosely attached connections down to their weight when installed horizontally
If your PC goes up in flames, you're looking at a 100% reduction.
or its daylight slavings
Where can I get one of those adapters? 3:29
Just say it its because people are not using their heads and not installing a cable properly.
the soldering is quite close to the other, soo… if u dont connect it properly and bend it so they heat up and short circuit, easy as that
It's not melting, it's a feature called Nvidia Fusion technology as it fuses your gpu to your pc.
You are the only one of the youtubers who understands how electricity works. It's precisely because of loose connection, either loose connection in the plug or broken but still rubbing together connection that causes the increase in amperage and the one contact being heated. It's not about totally broken off contact. It is resolved. people just being slow af.
Made in China. Why is anyone surprised?
imagine 2040 nvidia made 6090 Ti GPU need 12 pin X 2 power power of 1000 watss gpu
Heres the funny story for this year. Nvidia GPUs.. Last year it was impossible to get one.. this year congratulations you just bought yourself a toaster 😂
They need to learn from automotive cables. Also soldering junctions for that amount of current, will be a problem.
Is this only with a 4×8 pin adapter or the same with 3×8 pin as well
I think pcie 5 gen psu with 12VHPWR socket may solve the problem i believe
1 month later… The user is the issue.
what if you spot weld the cables the connector terminals then apply solder ? just to be safe
If this problem involve human health, this video would be banned as anti science.
When u play Need for speedo u must experience smell of burning tires otherwise its not Need for speed u noe.
Why would someone should go tru this issue after spending 2000$ on card i just dont understand…. its already risky plus what if it cause issue to motherboard in the future…
Condolences to case owners with a window. (Teehee)
The WAY Better question would be "Why hundreds of thousands are NOT melting while those 12 on Reddit did?"…
европейцы не могут позволить себе такую карту
One or two t-deans could solve those problems, ridiculous.
Why did you steal those chipmunks
Why we didnt hear any issues from 3090ti , it uses the same connector ?
Most power of 12v rail is converted to 1.** V for CPU and GPU consumption, the new ATX PSU 12VO standard should really be 24VO.
This is how mutch nvidia loves you.
at this rate 8090 can burn your house
After buy 2k card now i have to worry about my pc won't catch a fire i need insurance from Nvidia for my 5k pc at this rate it better to buy a 1k GPU that don't burn my house
I’ve had my 4090 for a week now, no issues yet, it’s kinda scary waiting to see if mines going to melt
