CPU Upgrade? 4 core vs 6 core (AMD Ryzen)

It wasn’t so long ago when a 4-core CPU was the most powerful processor on the market. But technology is evolving. Nowadays, 6-core processors are the most common with around 35% market share according to Steam Hardware and Software Survey. However, there are quite a few people who have not yet upgraded and are facing a dilemma. I was one of them and finally decided to do it. In the next few minutes you can see a comparison between quad and octa core processor in synthetic benchmarks, web browsing, gaming and productivity tasks.

  1. The computer industry has serious problems right now.
I bought a 12 core 7900x on Amazon yesterday, and then bought an ebay mobo to go with it. Then Amazon cancels my CPU order. I can't build a workstation like this, 2 steps forward, 3 steps backwards…

I keep slowly acquiring all the parts, they keep being the wrong thing (Type 4 cables vs Type 3 Corsair PSU cables, come on, W T F). So much cable mess from RGB Im going to have to wire up just o get the fans working how am I going to do this as a blind person, let alone all those mobo headers. Even slotting in 4 DIMMS is a major challenge (try it in the dark like I have to do, yeah, not so easy is it).

I'm like why am I even bothering to upgrade my ancient FX8350 video editing workstation , Youtube don't pay a dime… it hasn't in 15 years I've been posting videos to it.. Youtube is dead.

  2. My 4 core i7 4770 is finnaly outdated. After the last PUBG patch it can no longer hold up in intensive moments. Had it since launch and has served me well. Am thinking the 8 core 7800x3d next

  3. Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 5 5600 are from different generation, Ryzen 3 3100 is Zen 2 Cores and Ryzen 5 5600 is Zen 3 Core so eventually it will be faster. Zen3 Lineup doesnt have 4 core processors its would be better comparing like i3 12100 and i5 12400. that would show the difference

  4. Your gaming test are flawed. Nice video but at 1080p and those settings you were likely hitting a gpu bottleneck. For better testing you should set all settings to low as this puts a higher workload on the cpu. But what the test does show is that for that particular GPU RX6600 the Ryzen 3 3100 was quite capable of extracting full performance out of the gpu. I suspect if you swapped it out for a higher end GPU you would see a larger discrepancy in FPS between the two CPU's
