RTX 4090 VS Dual 3090 NVLINK Gaming PC Build And Benchmarks

RTX 4090 is the new monster graphics card from Nvidia, and today we will test it against a Dual 3090 NVLINK build (using hacked drivers to enable SLI)

support my stuff or check out all the other things I do here:

This monster card is big and green, just like shrek. the RTX 4090 is exactly what you’ll need to play shrek noire 95 RTX on the maximum settings, the new killer app coming (soon?) or whenever our patreon support gets higher.

If you want to help support my channel or the development of this insane benchmark test of a game that is “Shrek Noire 2” or “Shrek Noire 95 RTX” which is currently in alpha/pre-alpha stages, please support me on patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/join/psychoticgiraffe/signup

The PNY 4090 is probably my favorite of the cards due to its insanely low idle temperature of 26c, and its very long epic name of:

the 4090 is a card I suggest everyone buy immediately, best card I’ve ever owned hands down.

anyhow, if you plan to do a build using more than 1 3090, word of the wise is to make sure your board has SLI support otherwise you’ll be using hacky methods like slienabler, which is annoying to configure.

for the new motherboards coming out for intel and AMD, it seems SLI is basically dead, if you want to have like 3-4 3090s not bottlenecked by the bus, and liquid cooled so they don’t light on fire, you’re better off getting a threadripper system than using the pro-sumer boards on b550/x570

x670 is here and is only going to work with dual card configs on specific high end boards;

we may at some point revisit the rtx 4090 and make a dual rtx 4090 build and force them to run together for interesting tasks; if the funding for the channel is consistent enough for me to afford doing it. I’d love to own a threadripper, but I don’t have that kind of money.

Hell, if someone finds a way to do it, I might even make a quad rtx 4090 build one day if the funding comes in, special thanks to any of you who did a superchat.

  1. Shrek Noire 2 RTX Pre-alpha is currently the most intensive game out there for the RTX 4090, still in development, you can see a brief tech demo of it and it’s brother “Shrek Noire 95 RTX” and the original Shrek Noire 1, in the video above.

If you’d like to help fund this insane project support me on patreon in the description

our ultimate goal is to eventually be able to afford a remote server that has at least 64 cores, 256gb of ram+ and 3 or 4 way NVLINK so that the developers of this massive completely insane project can render out 16K 60 film quality cutscenes, and push extreme resolutions with raytracing and VR. We intend to make shrek noire 2 a game designed for the future gpus of 5 years from now, a benchmark that will likely need a 4090 for a playable 1080p experience, and it will also have multi gpu optimizations, we’ve tested the engine and verified it can utilize 2 gpus, but need to test 3-4 next.

  2. Cool video, thanks. The Nvlink benefits come when you use programs that make use of the 48GB memory stack of the two 3090.
In games the two cards operate in SLI mode if I remember well, with all the goods and the cons that the mode has: meaning that some game will support it properly and others won't.
The 4090 is expected to be faster: the Cuda cores, the tensor and the RT cores are better, faster and more efficient than the previous generation.
The 3090 setup, though, wasn't the best. The two cards were too close, the fans of the card in the top position were blocked by the 2nd card. Water blocks or a motherboard with more pcie slots would make a better setup for them.
But why buying the 3090s new? Old gen hardware can be bought used.

  3. Didnt think nvidia would go so low that they killed off nvlink! No more dual gpus. I knew they would do at some point as they are pure greedy!!! Making sure we have to go to the new gen instead of getting an extra cheaper of the same to run 2.
Really wish amd would make gpus proper ones though for high end gaming

  4. 1:48 I was not expecting OMF2097 music. I had that as a ringtone on my flip phone in 2006.

The composer of that theme did a bit of music for a visual novel I’m working on. That was cool to get the hero of such an iconic theme to touch my own work!

  5. I don't know where you got the money to even entertain the idea for this video, but I just want you to know that I appreciate you. Thanks for fulfilling my Shrek, Doritos and Mountain Dew addiction.

  6. For 3d rendering, 2×3090 with nvlink allows you to have a shared 48Gb VRAM pool and for some scenes it's required and you can't render them with a single 4090, which no longer has the nvlink

  7. I am using 2x 3090s but without SLI and blender and other render engines like Redshift & FStorm render performance is close to a single 4090. the cost benefit of low price used 2x 3090s vs new 4090 is more as compared to performance difference.

  8. I love the the whole set up, putting the thicc rtx 4090 and comparing it to 3090 which in that case you can see a big difference in fps, graphics, video, etc. i love learning about these things such amazing work hun :3 also very satisfying with the graphics card asmr!! 🥰
