Sony’s LinkBuds wireless headphones, which specialize in hole-shaped ring earplugs and open design, will be launched in 2022 and are expected to usher in a new generation of successor models this year. According to foreign media The Walkman Blog, Sony wireless headphones with model number “YY2964” have recently obtained certification from South Korea’s RRA Wireless Product Equipment Agency.

However, the appearance of the headphones is slightly different from the previous generation in three details. First, the original number of charging pins on the previous generation headset was three, while the spy photos of the new headset were reduced to two. Secondly, the original semicircular ear wings have been replaced with fin-like designs. Third, the previous generation of earbuds used a hole-shaped double-ring structure, while the new earphones have a single-ring structure.

In terms of functional specifications, the current information about this wireless headset is still quite limited, and it is unclear what the key upgrades will be. In view of Sony’s flagship true wireless headset WF-1000XM5, which was launched last year, the certified model is labeled “YY2963”. It is quite similar to the new headphone model “YY2964” shown in the certification documents. Foreign media estimate that the second-generation LinkBuds new wireless headset will be developed at the same time as the WF-1000XM5, and may have a sound experience comparable to flagship headsets as the main upgrade highlight.
