SEGA SATURN Emulation just got BIG!

There is some HUGE breakthroughs with Sega Saturn Emulation. Especially on low end systems and single board computers. The Odroid XU4 is now able to play Sega Saturn games to a great standard and many of the classics are now fully playable on there.

All footage used in this video has been taken from the ODROID XU4 running this emulator. Some games can be made to run even smoother by lowering the Resolution (480p @steady 60fps), some game can be made to look better by increasing it (1080p @ 30FPS full speed in most cases). For the purpose of this video, I used the same res throughout (x2 @ mostly steady 60FPS, sometimes 30FPS all full speed) to show what its like at a medium setting!

It is a WIP and the build that has the Saturn compatibility is still in BETA stages for the ORA team. But it will soon be made public so you guys get to share all this too!

I also mentioned my ODRIOD theme too. The link to this is in the links below. It is still WIP, but very much useable. Just make sure you read the README text on the github site. It shows you what settings you need to put in to make it work as intended. I know some of you dont know how to work Github yet, so I will make a dedicated video in the next day or so showing you how to do this in detail… aslo updating it ready for the official launch!

  1. Great progress with the Sega Saturn Emulation! Never thought these games would ever be playable like this on a tiny SBC… they are a beast to run even on the PC. Is there anything else you would like me to test out on here… any games or other systems?!?!

  11. Hi I'm trying to get Sega Saturn to run through Launchbox – Tried Mednafen but keep getting unrecognized file format? In 2020 what is the best emulator to use? I've got a decent PC so any help would be massively appreciated.

  13. Saturn emulation is virtually flawless on Mac thanks to OpenEmu (with the Mednafen core).

    Even Burning Rungers runs flawlessly.

    In fact every single game I've thrown at it runs flawlessly; hundreds of them.

  17. I have a Sega Saturn but only have Sega Rally for it,I did have Sonic Jam on years ago.. 🙂 This killed the 32X. and the PSX killed the Saturn,I played the PSX more. Remember Sega Soccer,it was better than Fifa 95.I liked the Demo discs. I wish they still made them for modern consoles, Playstation Mag is not worth £5.99 no more. They still make demos for games, Fifa 20 has a demo on PS4. The internet has killed the Demo Disc off.

    ODROID XU4 is not cheap it's like £149 in the UK on ebay so 5x as much a RPI3 or RPI4 thats £35 ,so might as well use a PC.might work on a RPI8 or 9 in about 4 or 5 years… 🙂 They came out with a new RPI almost every year now.

  20. itsa an ok video and has the basic truth but it hides sth about saturn emulation and also about saturn in general.. they are the thorn in the side of retor gaming enthused individuals everywhere and anytime a great inconvenience strikes a rero gamer.. the worse effect it has on the subculutre. first give up owning hte system if you think owning an og xbox is a pain youve only started down the trail of tears.. a system that simply sucks at playng VERY expensive games.. but again never before was there such a case to keep emulation legal.. if you want to play these games hteres one way and yeh a gaming pc is a must but.. i HATE my gaming pc jesus christ my softmodded xbox has more balls than this thing i just paid two grand to put together.. the biggest prolem.. anything windows based BLOWS.. but yeh the yabuse emulator got taken off my softmod og xbox.. it was broken and it made everythig else freeze.. alas i love the saturn it has so many neat games i wish i could go back to when tv's were simple and it was a new system.. well maybe not lol ause i rmeber that most video stores wouldnt even carry the games because the scratch guard on ps1 disks kept them running much longer and the tech did get better over the years.. but saturn hardware is excellent for its time just.. yeh thats a real pin to me persnally i loved the saturn and well.. it wasnt sega cd terrible but close.. still a lot of games that need sharing there..
