Google Needs to Kill the Tensor! Time to Give Up!

Google needs to give up on the Google Tensor chips and start using the Snapdragon chips again. The Google Tensor G3 and the Tensor chips are a failed experiment that are designed to power Google’s AI, AI Models, and process machine learning data and it can’t even beat Samsung and other platforms running Google’s own AI. Samsung and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is more capable and beats Google without the hardare limitations running Google’s own AI models and software. It’s time for Google to give up.

  1. A little late to the party here but I just have to add my two cents when it comes to all of this gripe about "chips", "RAM", "Storage", or whatever else people want to complain about when it comes to talking about these so called "phones". I'm a brand new Pixel 8 customer. Not because I want to be but because I already know that no matter how hard I try and fight I have to accept "modern". They force you to. So, there is no better device than Google's own if you want to become what they call "future proof". Seven years OS updates, seven years security updates. Whatever. I charge this stupid thing once a week. Sunday night. It lasts me an entire week without having to do another charge. Why? or how you guys may ask? Because I use it for a phone. Not a computer. This is where we have become lost in regards to people compaining about all of this unnecessary BS. A phone was literally invented to do two things. A. Make calls and B. Receive calls. Thats it. No chips, no RAM, no Storage, no texting, no surfing the web. Nothing. Even the earlier days of CELLULAR technology did not require all of this crap people are addicted to nowadays. A cell phone and a Smart phone are two different things. There is nothing wrong with the Pixel 8 or any other "phone" on the market. If you aren't a person stupid enough to put your entire life on it or shoving your big dumb faces in the screen every five minutes of your day you would be surprised just how great the "Tensor G3 chip" is or any other chip for that matter. The phones are not the problem. Its the users. Plain and simple. I don't care what Google has promised in terms of capabilities of this chip, their stupid "AI", or whatever else. Eventually these devices will plateau because you can only go so fast no matter what chip you have. So maybe people need to start focusing on their own internal chip which is their brains and start using them for once and start using a phone for what its worth. A phone. I cannot believe people make money off of reveiwing this sh!t.

  2. I think they'll be able to sell at whatever price if they take up Qualcomm or TSMC. Foundations has been set and everyone knows the Pixel line.

  3. Pulled my pixel 4a out of the closet (currently with oneplus 11, left pixel 7.) . The pixel 4a still running smooth like new on a snapdragon 730g

  4. I came from using iphone 13 pro to pixel 8 pro. The good things about the pixel is the camera and the google software. However it doesn't feel powerful, the battery is trash. When its just a little dim i cant even unlock my phone, and im not even using my finger print im using a pin! I have to lift my phone up and down for it to light up and actually allow me to unlock it. Oh and i have to press enter after i put my pin, that may not be a big deal for some people but it is for me, its extra work.its little stuff like that, that makes iphone seamless and smooth. I just dont know if its a good investment because i really like the phone but the battery sucks! Ive been using my phone for five hours straight today and its on 10%, that is not acceptable. I dont want to have to have a dim phone just to make it last. Google needs to do better, they are on the right path but they need a better battery to compete wirh apple. I also noticed that i don't have as good reception as i did with my iphone on T-Mobile. I now pay more with verizon and have a pixel but less service? I blame pixel

  5. It's all about saving money, making more money, and trying to follow Apple's model with a custom chip to eventually have a good custom chip. Maybe Samsung promised more than they delivered in the tensor chips?? Maybe Google knew up front the tensor chips wouldn't even be as good as the equivalent exynos chip, who knows?? I agree that it's not working, and Google knows this which is why they are going with TSMC custom chips with Pixel 10. That is our only hope because I doubt they are switching to snapdragon chips. Google missed a deadline with TSMC for the Pixel 9 which is why the new chip will be delayed until the Pixel 10. We might as well wait on Pixel 10 or 11 and say our prayers. That's why I'm not upgrading yet. I pray Google gets their act together because I love Pixel phones otherwise.

  6. Bad take imo

Using a Pixel 8 Pro alongside a OnePlus 12, the Pixel feels perfectly fast. Competition is needed, don't give Qualcomm less competition or they will stagnate. Most likely the reason the 8g3 focused on AI was because Tensor exists and has been doing it for 3 generations.

  7. I don't think many care about ai and even less understand the point of it. I certainly wouldn't want to pay hundreds more just to get a phone that does it well.

  8. I agree completely.. Sold my pixel 8 coz the hardware was failing on it… It was a mess apart from the camera… The motherboard had issues, speaker issues, microphone issues… And the the display gave in… Whatelse can go wrong with a phone in just 3 months..!!

  9. I'm looking for a new phone. I REFUSE to go for a Exynos Samsung (not keen on Samsungs bloatware either). I WOULD go for a SD Pixel, but, obvs, they don't make that. I HAVE considered the Thinkphone or OP11 or 12 though… 🤔 And… To be honest… I don't care about all this 'AI stuff'…
    😎🇬🇧

  10. I have a Pixel 8 Pro. I have returneed the 7 Pro, twice. The 8 Pro is so much better, but, you are absolutely right, ditch Tensor!!! I loved the Snapdragon performance in the Pixel 5. Performance felt better than this new phone. The ONLY reason i usw pixel is the outstanding camera. Like the software also. This phone with SD will blow alway everything else. What are they waiting for????

  11. My issue with the Tensor is the phone reception, I would lose signal and get the sos thing when my iPhone would have full bars. It would do that like twice a day. I loved my pixel 8 pro but it has to be good at the phones actually primary function. I sold it on eBay and used the money towards the s24 ultra.

  12. I believe with the pixel 9 line up, most of you will be pleased. I just purchased the P8P two days ago, and 5g speeds are great(500-900), wifi speeds are fast as well, no overheating etc.

  13. The moment Google announced 7 years of support for the Pixel, I felt it was a marketing stunt more than anything else. Almost no one keeps a phone for 7 years, and even if you take into account secondhand ownership the prominence of a particular model drops sharply after around 4 years due to dead batteries and hardware that just can't keep up anymore.

Also, let's be real, owners of old phones (+4 years) probably care a lot more about their old phone running smoothly, than being secure and up-to-date. How many times have we seen updates cripple old phones due to hardware limitations? When you factor that in, support after a certain point could actually be BAD for old phone longevity.

Long story short, I question if 7 years of support really benefits anyone. Hardware almost always decides how long a phone lasts, not software.

  14. I decided to switch over to Gemini from Assistant just now. Hopefully it'll be a good ride. I wasn't too thrilled that it saves info for 3 years, so I turned that off. 72 hours is much better. Even Assistant kept it for 63 days, I think.

  15. I don't think Google needs to kill tensor. I think consumers can make their own choices and if a Pixel fits their needs then that's fine. AI features aren't mature enough IMHO to justify the expense at this point. I have a Pixel 7a for travel purposes when the size and camera are all I need. I probably won't buy another Pixel as I feel the S24 may fit my needs better going forward. But that's me.

  16. I am so disappointed with Google. I don't know if I will be buying a pixel when I need a new phone. I will just use my 6Prpo till it's no good any more. Then might go with a One Plus. See what happens…

  17. I haven't had any problems with my Pixel 8 Pro & Pixel Watch 2. Both have been just as fast in my daily usage. The Pixel 9 is gonna be even better. Chips made by TSMC are usually 30% faster than Samsungs. So Pixels future looks bright.

  18. Wish I'd have never bought the 8pro. Doesn't work nearly as well in the connectivity department as my old iPhone 11 pro max that I unfortunately traded in.

  19. What’s really rich is the fact that me and a bunch of people were poo pooing the pixel 8 line because tensor sucks and has the same bench marks as the iPhone 11 , But techodyssey and a bunch of other reviewers defended it and said bench marks are stupid because they got the phone for free. Now all of the sudden they are appalled that the phone is under powered and they feel they can talk about it now because the first press wave of the pixel 8 is over and it won’t piss off daddy Google to much .

  20. A lot of you that keeo repeating the chip "problems" are most likely only complaining because it was brought to your attention. Most of you probably never have experienced anything that shows lack of capability.

  21. The majority of pixel customers are not techies. Normal smartphone buyers want a phone to be able to make calls, send texts, have good battery life, a dope camera with 2-3 lenses, and be able to use whatever app they need.

I've had every single pixel xl or pro since gen 1. I even have a pixel tablet on my nightstand (won that through pixel super fan contest).

I am totally fine with the direction the pixel line is moving in. Excited to see the pixel 9 pro and the 10 series.

Relax people! Google does not need to cancel tensor development.

  22. And yet Google laid off thousands of workers so they can save money to invest on next Tensor R&D? Seems we’ll be seeing a new CEO sooner than later.
Anyway, I will stick with 7Pro until it’s completely dead. By then, I will go for better Android smartphone to accompany my iPhone. Let see what Nothing and Oppo has in store 😂
Samsung Knights: stand down and stand by 🤭

  23. If I could give this video 100 thumbs up I would. I got destroyed talking about this 2 years ago when the tensor first came out. As someone who has most of the popular flagship processors that has come out in the last 3 to 5 years. Tensor and Exynos are my worst. If Google used a current Snapdragon flagship chipset along with their current algorithms for AI we might have a true iPhone competitor. They should just use a custom Snapdragon chip similar to Samsung and other oems.

  24. Pixel phones are for people that like their signature photos, while doing all the base staff like YouTube, mails…

Gamers are not going even to consider this piece of 💩 called Pixel. No matter which specific model.

I like to bury Exynos whenever I can, but Tensor is a whole new level. It's pointless to even mention how bad that chip is.

People who care, know. Others don't care, or are blinded Pixel fans, which is ok.

Drama between camps is pointless. All what matters is, if you are happy with the purchase or not.

  25. Nah, I haven't felt the need for my pixel 8 pro to be faster than it already is. It definitely could be more efficient but I'm on board with them going a separate route from simply buying a Snapdragon. In the long run, the competition will make their products better.

It already has made Android offerings better by forcing Snapdragon and Samsung to improve the Galaxy line and by forcing Google to make the Pixel more unique if it can't compete on raw power alone.

  26. Never give up. I hope that Google's engineers are given the time and resources they need to complete their roadmap for Tensor. I also strongly disagree that Apple is a better experience because they make their own chips. I'd argue quite the opposite. Diversity and competition are extremely important for innovation, as are trade and collaboration. This is how greatness is made.

  27. Agree, after three years and seeing how the tech world is moving…the conclusion to be made is that there is no real purpose for the Tensor existing today lol. Maybe they thought differently in 2021, maybe that was a different climate and thought process, but at this point they need to cut their losses and move on. Snapdragon is too far ahead to waste time and money pursuing. They're like two generations behind and Snapdragon is showing no signs of slowing down
