On April 29, the latest data released by Canalys, a well-known market research agency, showed that in the first quarter of 2021, global smartphone shipments reached 347 million units, a year-on-year increase of 27%.
Among them, Samsung ranked first with a 22% share and shipped 76.5 million units. Apple followed closely with shipments of 52.4 million units, with a share of 15%.
Canalys believes that sales of the iPhone 12 mini were lower than expected, but the strong performance of other iPhone 12 models and the old iPhone 11 helped it ensure its momentum.
However, the third-placed Xiaomi is in hot pursuit. From the data point of view, Xiaomi has created the best single-quarter performance ever, with a year-on-year growth of 62%, the world’s fastest growth rate, with 49 million units shipped, and its share has reached 14%, further narrowing the distance with Apple.
Oppo and vivo ranked among the top five, shipping 37.6 million and 36 million units, respectively, with a share of 9%.
