The iPad mini is the compact SUV of the tech world. A Tesla Model Y of sorts. While laptops can do more heavy lifting and phones are more portable, sometimes a compromise is the perfect solution.
And this seemed to be the device from Apple’s latest event that got the most excitement, so why is this? Do that many people want a compact SUV? Why?
There is literally no competition. A mini-tablet now directly competes with folding phones in a sense, but also with larger tablets, but really with neither
DESIGN
Fingerprint sensor is ok but I don’t especially like it
Cellular variation available (sub-6 5G)
USB-C finally!
Finally squared off edges to match the Apple product lineup
8.3” display with more contrast and better colors than the prev model (almost ½” bigger)
2nd gen apple pencil support (and charging) – which is why the buttons are moved
Volume buttons intuitively change based on orientation
Bezels give nice grip zone
I wish you could customize the app array and utilize the space better
Camera is not in a great location, but the device is so small, it is not as impactful
Also less likely to be a primary meeting device

Sidecar is nice. If you really want a tiny second display for your email, calendar, notes, etc. while traveling, the iPad mini is a great companion for MacBooks

Tablets are like an SUV. It cannot do the heavy lifting of a truck, nor the efficiency of a sedan, but sometimes a mix is exactly what you need.

Depending on how much you travel, this may be too small for you
Just as powerful as the larger tablets, but in a more compact form. Much like the iPhone mini, which was one of my favorite phones last year
